Surprise visit (pic)

Just thought I'd post this pic of this little guy who wandered by yesterday while out for a stroll. So nice to see one looking so healthy. He even caught himself a little snack (in his mouth). We're hoping his appearance means the rabbits will be fewer this year. Don't mind if the rabbits nibble a little here and there but the last two years they destroyed countless shrubs over the winter.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I love them all. I never had trouble growing nasturtiums by direct sowing. In fact, I think I used to read that they resented transplanting, but ws'ing is a little different when you plant them with the soil intact around the roots. But as soon as they started blooming nicely, the bottoms of the leaves would get covered with aphids, and they'd die. I had this white powder stuff I got and poofed on them (hard to get at the undersides), but it didn't work well, and I didn't like breathing that stuff or getting it on me plus I was working and didn't have time to trouble shoot like I can a little more now. Of course I wouldn't have known the hose trick which might have worked. Maybe conditions have changed. One year I had aphids early on the rose buds but not so bad the last two years, so maybe I've got a different balance going now. Or maybe not. Thanks for sharing your nice photos.

I so do appreciate the time it took you to post these pictures. The pictures are totally awesome! You have done a great job in photographing them. The ones that stood out for me were Olympic Sunrise, Dawn's Early Light and War Paint---but, heck, who could resist any of them? Thanks again and Happy Anniversary!

As a fellow self-talker, I thought I'd give you a break and respond to your post, Betty! We had a beautiful precursor to fall today in central Maryland, 70's with bright sunshine and a persistent breeze . . . I LOVED IT! One of my bluebird pairs was also at the nestbox this morning, though they resisted having their pictures taken. It reminded me that the blues often mimic spring nesting behavior and in years past I've worried that they were confused by the weather, the length of the days or something. Imagine my surprise when 2 years ago one of the females actually DID build a nest! I checked that nest several times a day, scared to death that she'd lay eggs! I'm sure she was sitting somewhere nearby, laughing her butt off!!! It turns out that she just builds a nest each fall so that she'll be comfortable in the box during the colder months when she and the Mr are roosting. When spring gets here, she revives it a bit, adds fresh grass to the nestcup and is usually the first girl to lay eggs. Got my attention, though! Kathy

Just my $.02 here...I don't take any chances with electricity and my pool. IMO, having to re-do a portion of your landscaping is a small price to pay for being sure that your electrical is A-OK and that you can get a final permit clearance on your pool. Personally, I would not trust a non-electrician (your PB) to tell me what is or is not a safety issue with the electrical part of my pool. I'm not saying he's trying to intentionally mislead you, but he may not know what he doesn't know. I would also think that not getting a final inspection on your pool would eventually come back to bite you. In my city, the issuance of an original permit gets a notice sent on over to the property tax office. If your pool (or whatever project) isn't completed in a certain time frame, the inspectors get on your case and eventually, so do the taxing authorities...they really want to get that added valuation on your record so they can collect more taxes.

Beautiful photo! He sure is a wonderful creature. We have them here in NS too and just saw one the other day when coming home.

I wouldn't mind renting him for a few days to take care of my squirrels!

We had a surprise visit too, but no photo because we weren't fast enough. We had a groundhog hopping around next door - he even hopped up their back stairs onto the balcony. This is especially odd when you consider that we live smack dab in the middle of downtown Montreal - concrete jungle and all!

I'd like to borrow him too to tackle a rabbit problem. Found one little bugger going through my yard, probably is the same culprit who ate up my small apple tree.

Love the photo as well

We have something has dug a hole along side the front of my house, while I was away in Florida Have set a trap out in front near the spot but nothing in it so far this entire week

Thinking it is a skink and then not sure what to do with it if I catch same

He's beautiful! What a good picture too! I'm hoping the hole in the hill in the field next door is a fox hole.
