How big is your plant?

My largest has 1" base and is about 2.5' tall.

Caudex: I've got to small sets of cuttings. Both are in 4" pots and are a grand total of 6" tall. :-) I just bought them in November of last year, but the plan is to get them in the ground and hopefully put some real size on them. Is yours bedded out, or in a pot? I've only seen one picture of a mature plant, and the stem/trunk had some serious character! Got any pictures of yours?

Here's my largest one in a 6" pot. It gets terribly neglected, goes months without water and it's leafless most the year but as soon as it gets some moisture it shows signs of life.

Mine also go in and out of leaf periodically. I agree, they do respond well to water.

Just saw the tallest I have seen so far-the Dry Gardens over 3'. I give up on them. They are prone to die off. From thriving to failing,without any change in care that I noticed.
Mine were always potted..so in ground if I ever try again.
Like Coreopsis gigantia,they make me think-and my head hurts.

Well, just as I'd hoped, the buds just keep opening day after day. We had a nice overcast morning, and I was able to get outside a snap a few shots.

Wow! One of my favorite garden plants and a succulent too! Are bees attracted to it? Windowsill grower? If inside will it stay green all year? Anyone ever find a four-leaf on one? Must of missed this thread while on vacation. Fascinating plant. Thanks,

Mike: I've never seen any bees or other pollinators show interest in it. Then again, I'm not keeping a super close eye on it, so maybe I'm just missing them. I suppose it would do alright on a windowsill, provided it gets enough light. They can take part shade, but will need strong light for at least part of the day. Given their large growth habit they will get very leggy if grown in full shade. I'm not sure you could, or would even want to keep them in leaf all year (I honestly don't know). Coming from the Atacama desert, it is quite possible they've adapted to the point of requiring a prolonged season of drought to flower and/or grow properly. Then again, they are easy enough to propagate through cuttings, so that you could try both approaches.

Mary: I'd never seen this species until a vendor brought a few into our monthly meeting. I just loved the foliage, and bought two. I've yet to come across anymore, but then again, I haven't really been looking.

It is truelly a very beautiful plant! I have never seen anything like it, I love the foliage also and the flowers are so delicate and pretty.

If you do find it would you please let me know, I will be on the lookout till I find it.

Sorry I can't be of more help in attaining one for yourself Mary, it seems none of my usual online nurseries sell this species. In the process of looking though, I did come across this most excellent collection of Oxalis gigantea in habitat.

Thank you caudex! I looked and would love to purchase this..my concern is that it says difficult to grow. For those of you that are growing this what makes it difficult? I would like to grow it as a house plant is that ok for this particualr plant? I am a zone 5 so no way it coud be an outside plant.
