The pink can be fairly common for this bug. Pupal color won't change what's inside though.

Is that an orange barred sulphur in your picture, Sherrie? It looks just like a cloudless sulphur, but then all the sulphur chrysalids that I'm familiar with - cassia eaters - look alike, the only real difference being size.

Sherry, I just wish I knew whether it's an orange-barred or a cloudless sulphur!!! I'm so new at this that I'm learning new things every day about the butterflies. A year ago this time I knew there were monarchs - and yellow butterflies - and black and yellow butterflies! That's it! I had no idea there were gulf fritillaries, or polydamas - and I surely had no idea about the beautiful pipevine swallowtails and spicebush swallowtails that are now frequenting my yard since I have planted their host plants! I can hardly wait each day to spend time outside and see what new thing God will bless me with discovering! I LOVE this hobby! My greatest frustration is not having enough FOOD for them. I actually have enough of everything EXCEPT the kinds of pipevine required by the pipevine swallowtails. They keep laying their eggs on the Aristolochia elegans, and I keep transferring them to the Aristolochia fimbriata and trilobata, but there's not much of them left and there are still lots of eggs being laid.

That's a beautiful picture of the chrysalis Sherry! I love it when I get a decent closeup. I got some recently of the newly eclosed pipevine male where I could see the rows of colored scales! Awsome!
