I like that goldfish with the black lips and tail. Does the gaura have another common name? It looks familiar. I love the cast iron planters. They must weigh a ton!

Kristy, do you trim back the lilies after they bloom, or just let them die back to the ground? Mine all bloomed out over a month ago. It looks kinda weard, looking at a bed of flowerless leaves. Barbra,

What are those ferny lookin plants w/the pink flowers? I have them but don't know what they are? DH brought them home in a box of mixed natives he dug up, they were his fav's out of the bunch. They are growing well, even have some in my streambed bareroot! It loves it there!
What cute lil fishies! I see the hose is in there, did you dechlorinate before you put the fish in? Too much chlorine will kill your fish and your plants. If you need to top it off, fill up a bucket or 2 and let them sit 18-24 hrs then put it in, the chlorine will disipate on its own.

Barbra you're not supposed to trim bulb foliage but allow it to yellow on it's own. That's the one thing I hate, especially with daffodils. I tie the foliage into "haystacks" and try to plant other things to hide them. When you cut the foliage before it dies the bulb can't store enough nutrients for the following season. A lot of people cut them and just replant bulbs each season. That's too expensive for me.

The pink flower ferny one is achillea. I think that how its spelled. The butterflies love it. I don't know if there is a common name for the gaura. I only know it as pink gaura, lol. The planters do weigh a ton. It was an old cast iron kettle I drilled holes in. I like the fish with the black nose and tail too. I tried to pick some unusual ones. I have a white one too with just a little red on his head. I run out and take pics in the morning or when I get home in the evening and let them download while I cook supper. Thats why its always late when I post pics, lol. I wish I had more time to work on my flower beds and feel like doing it when I do have time. I have to wait a couple days and recover every time I do major stuff. I won't be able to do a lot tomorrow but hope to finish up the front bed and clean up the mess, lol. I won third place in the tournament and it was a professional circuit and people that guide and fish for a living won first and second so I was proud of that. Won some money to send my Mom some extra. After we did the fish fry an ambulance and life flight helicoptor landed in the next cove over from us and someone said an 18 year old boy drowned. It was very sad and we didn't know how it happened but I was just telling my neighbor about it and he said he saw on the news last night that a boy was missing since yesterday out there so I guess it was him that they found. I think some kids found him in the swim area. I feel so bad for them and the families. It put a bad ending to an otherwise good day. I will say a prayer for them all.

That's sad about the boy. Just terrible. I can't imagine what that poor boy went through, and now his family. So sad.

I love yarrow as well, and wanted to get some but never got around to it. I have had the yellow and white, but might just get a pink like your's (Kristy). I know the butterflies will appreciate it! Funny, I just googled gaura and they say it is commonly known as beeblossoms -- never heard any one called them that!

I have been trying to find info on the boy. One article says it was a man and they don't know how he got in the area he was in and was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. The other said it was a 21 year old that was swimming with friends and went out too far and was pulling at the girl that tried to help him and she had to swim to shore for help and he was underwater for 5 minutes then rescued. The guy that was with us was an emt and had gone over there to see what was going on said the boy was purple and they tried to rescusciate him without success. I don't know what really happened. Maybe they are just waiting to notify the family before they say. One article said the guys family lives in Mexico. Terrible either way but I hope he did survive. I can send you some of the yarrow if you want. Email your address. I just gave a bunch away but still have a big clump and a one already dug up for Mike I need to send out so if I need to box up some more let me know and I'll send them all at once. I have enough for a couple more people.
