How do I get my California sycamore to leaf out?

Hi folks, I've been growing a California sycamore that my mom gave me as a seedling from the one in her backyard. It was doing fabulous. I'll swear it's 20 feet tall in just a year or two, but we moved it a few feet in November because at the rate it was going it was going to run into the wall sooner rather than later.

Anyway, it's alive, and the buds on it are swelling, but no leaves yet! Every other sycamore I see on the street has lots of leaves already. Granted, spring just sprang in my backyard--got the first daffodil blooms today, and the blueberries are just leafing out, but I'm worried about it.

If the leaves don't develop, is it going to starve. I'm watering the heck out of it, and it's been growing in mulched-over compost but do you think I should try an organic fertilizer? Bloodmeal or cottonseed meal? Or maybe just lots more compost?
