Old Camellia - Dead leaves - How to save?

dansof

I live in the San Fernando Valley of LA. We're having a drought. I have quite a few very old camellias (maybe 30 yrs?) that are not irrigated. I noticed wilting leaves on one quite large tree a few weeks ago. The trees on either side of it were (and are) fine. I started watering, but now the leaves are crispy brown. When I test the branches they still are green. Don't see any obvious sign of disease. Should I keep watering and hope it will come back in spring? Is it probably beyond saving? any suggestions appreciated.
