All the leaves are brown!

I think my Mrs. Tingley is dying..

It's very sad. I bought it from the same place... HD

One Mrs. Tingley bought from the same place is

thriving. It's in the same location just maybe a tad

bit more exposure.. I'm wondering if it's was bad

to begin with. They were both treated with the same care.

Camellias remind me of kids, each with its own unique personality, even within the same variety, which is one of the things that fascinates me. Once settled in after 2-3 years they are almost indestructible and will live for hundreds of years, but if they don't like a certain spot at first they will let you know. The reasons are many, Ph, soil pathogens, low planting height, drainage, etc., you may even have gotten one from the nursery with some dieback. My wife accuses me of moving them around like furniture, its not quite that bad, but I do have a few that are well traveled. If it were mine, I would pop it up and move it, or repot it for awhile and see if it strengthens up. Whats to lose. Its about time for dormancy which would be a good time. Prune out any dead wood or cankers well below to eliminate any diseased wood.

I think it was a bad plant from the supplier..
My other Mrs. Tingley planted in the same place,
with the same treatment, same watering, purchased
at almost the same time is thriving...many buds.
The other one is sadly... dying.. all the leaves dry.
There are buds.. but they are drying out too.
It's as if someone came in my garden and poured
a gallon of clorine bleach into it...happened fast!
I don't have a clue to what happened...
Maybe the possum that visits used it as a fire hydrant.

I can return it... but sad that a camellia died in my care.

Well, peeling it back may be too extreme, but if you scratch gently at the bark, removing the top layer, the layer between the bark and the wood - the cambium layer - should be green if the branch is alive at that point. If it is brown/grey/wood color all the way to the wood, the branch is dead at that point. Try lower down in a few places, and see if there is green. If it's brown all the way to the ground, then the shrub is probably dead. HOWEVER, if the shrubs have been in the ground for a few months, don't give up hope until next spring, since if the root system is a nice strong one, shrubs MAY grow back from the roots. Suckering shrubs are especially good about this. If it's a grafted shrub, and it's dead to point of the graft, you might as well dig it out, as what may come back will be (less desirable) under-stock. Have you been watering the plants? If so, how much and how often? What is the sun like, what is the soil like? How deeply did you plant, did you mulch, and if so, how deeply, how widely? How did the trees travel from the nursery to your house, who planted them, and how long had they been at your house (and how well watered) before they were planted? Knowing answers to these questions may help with advice.

I delved into Google, but didn't turn up anything relevant. If you find anything let us know, because I have one plant where a couple leaves are paper thin and browned as well. Have not seen anything like typical viral symptoms on the leaves and it's not even close to budding, so can't tell you if I have browned buds or not. I know I had peonies infected with botrytis that acted this way, on the buds at least.

Probably dead. Cut the tip of a branch to see if is green. If it is, it's alive. If it is brittle and brown keep cutting back 'til you see green. If you cant find green, it's dead.

WOW!! I love the tablecloth and the layering of the plates is perfect. I went to Ikea one time and never found any good deals like your "as is" plates! I'm a lot bummed about our fall too!! In the last 2 weeks, we have summer one day, fall the next day, and winter the next day, then back to fall, and back to winter. Thank goodness, it was nice Monday for the TOTr's. Anyway, your fall decor is fab! I like what you did with the stairs and the buffet. I guess I'd better go check out BCF!! LOL Those green hurricanes are gorgeous. I think we have the same pheasant, only mine is on my mantel and we also have the same flatware or really similar anyway. Great minds.... The stacked plate display and the pumpkins on the candlesticks are super. I'm really impressed that you switched from Halloween to fall so quickly. I just spent the whole day putting away Halloween! Of course, if I didn't do so much decorating, it wouldn't take so long to put it away!! LOL TFS, Candy

I bought two camellias this spring and planted them in the same kind of conditions. One is thriving, has grown 2' and is full of buds for the coming season.

The other one had two main trunks. One of the trunks died and the other survived. It is doing okay, but nothing like on the other camellia.

You can never predict what a living thing like a plant is going to do.
