Snow peas like the cool weather and I usually direct sow them as soon as the soil can be worked in full sun. That has worked for me. Don't know about beets, I don't grow them.

Peas usually prefer temperatures in the 60-65F range for planting. What can happen if planted in soil that's too cold still is the seeds can get wet (if raining) and rot. I usually wait until mid-Apr. Mid-Apr is also recommended if your last frost date is 24 March.

I planted 6 pea seeds during that hot weather we had last week, and 4 of them are sprouting. I put them in a large bucket which is kept close to the house.

Hey Crafty - how are the peas doing? I'm still waiting a bit for the pea planting but I am going to start on lettuce, cabbage, carrots and kale today with floating row covers pinned down over them for now. The cabbage will have the row covers for the summer after having bugs eat and poop to the point of not being able to eat not one of them.

Do tell - I'm curious to see how they are doing.

well, I decided to wintersow some in paper coffee cups in my cold frame to plant out later. 6 cups, Plan to cut the bottoms off when I plant them into the ground. The rest I will plant out later this week when the cold spell is hopefully over. I'll give the beets another month, I guess.
