Opuntia ID I have never seen this before .

There are some distinctive features I have noted

Pads are diamond shape

The glochids are never round more oval

Only some pads seem to get spines. Overall the pads only have glochids. I noticed many flower pads had the spines.

Marten,

Nice find, I have not been on the look out recently for more Nopales varieties. Looking forward to a future trade, I got a hardened off nopales pad, I can send your way.

I have been tempted to buy a few pads Nopales Grande pads from Rivenrock. Have so far held back, I don't know if you stumbled onto that website (you may find the nopales variety interesting).

For the expense of riven rock you would be better off since you are in California getting pads from Mexicans. 2 good plants are Opuntis caccanapa "ellisiana" and Opuntia ficus indica. I know nurseries in Cali and Arizona have decent indica in pots for way cheaper than riven rock. If you hold out you will get some from me. I have some good pads I will be sending your way. Ellisana, indica, lemon spreader, this one pictured, stricta spineless and normal, and Florida devil tounge humifusa.

Ken's not a yeller, just a huge fan of punctuation. I think he was trying to entertain everyone with a pic of a strange critter and plausible guess since the original pic went AWOL, which happens to a lot of people. And I think this is why... When you "browse" a picture to show, then click "preview," the pic info is no longer in the box next to the browse button at the bottom. So if you edit your comments again and click preview, the picture is gone. I suspect that's what happened. When I'm using that, I copy what gets put in the box after clicking browse so I have it ready to paste if I notice I need to edit again after clicking preview. They've made that tricky because clicking in the box will open the browse window again. You have to let that happen, then click cancel, or start there for your browse so your cursor is in the box after you come back from the browse. Now you can use the keyboard to select and copy what's there. Or just know you need to browse your pic again after each edit.

Good morning Jocelyn, does this resemble your mystery plumeria? Mine has a a definite gardenia-like scent though and also has a haze of pink on the front of the petal. If you go to mauiplumeriagardens.com their catalogue has a nice selection of possibilities. That is from where I received this cutting last year as a "mystery" plant so I do not know it's name. I tried to guess from the catalogue and couldn't positively decide which it might be. "Blush Pink" may have been the closest but there were a couple of others also. Take care! Aileen

I think it may be Crassula nudicaulis 'Devil's Horns'. The leaves get red like chili peppers with the lots of sun;).

Or, Pia and Pink Elf. One description states that it the color is not changes by the soil pH, but mine started out dark pink 2 years ago and now is almost maroon. Great Plan Picks shows it in various colors. So far it has stayed nice and small. I will wait, yeah rivenrocks prices are very high. I just will keep looking around, and see if anything that catches my eye will try to collect it.

Btw Marten, do you collect any other cactus fruit? I have 2 different varieties of Cactus Apple and 3 different varieties of Dragon fruit. Tell me if you are interested in some Dragon fruit as well.

I grow a lot of cacanapa ellisina but I have always heard that they are not that good for eating. The pad is thick and waxey. Nopales are thinner and more tender.

I just ate some ellisiana yesterday. I thought it was fine. I normaly eat my pads young and tender but even still I have not had a problem with ellisiana as food. Nice tecture, taste, and very pleasing. I normaly cut it into strips. If the skin is a problem it can easily be peeled off.

There have been no ID responses but I am leaning in the direction of a irregular form of Opuntia stricta. Probably not from this area since the stricta here don't look like this.

Hey there, would you still be in a position to acquire some of the pads and ship them to me? If so, let me know what you need. When I see an opuntia type that looks like something i do not have I always snag a few cuttings. Thanks
