Interesting since you are so far removed from confirmed populations of Chlosne gorgone. The New York state S rank for C. gorgone is S1 (less than 5 occurances of the bug). Strays are not residents. Even the only possible isolated colony I can find in my fair sized Lep references library is in a small area in upsate NY, and it is not confirmed as of those references. So if you think you have found a current resident population of C. gorgone in NY state it needs to be declared to a Lepidopterist at a local Natural History Museum, universary or even the state AG Deparment so it can be confirmed by them.

Regardless, the USDA rules dictate that neither C. gorgone or nycteis livestock can be shipped to you from another state.

Sure was easier all the years I reared leps as they could be freely shipped to or received from almost every place around the world legally with preapproved US export/import and specific permits (if regulated species).

I'm raising Silvery Checkerspots on Winged Sunflower (Actinomeris alternifolia)and Green Coneflower (Rudbeckia laciniata). A friend brought me a few. Unfortunately, without a copy of your permit nothing can be transferred. Are you doing research?

Actinomeris altrernifolia has been changed to Verbesina alternifolia. I planted one this summer because it not only hosts the Silvery Checkerspots, but Bordered Patches which migrate from Texas to Oklahoma.

I have had several Silvery Checkerspots this summer, as well as Gorgones, which I don't usually see as often as the SCs. I have several SCs mating as we speak in the garden. One male was waiting patiently while another male mated with a female. Funniest thing to watch! Will try to post pic tomorrow. They are prolific this summer as well as many other butterflies. It has been a very good year here so far.
