I am new to GW and this forum

This is why I like to say hello to everybody and I hope that I get to meet a lot of great people who share the passion of gardening AND Brugs with me.

I moved back to central Texas, Copperas Cove a little over 1 year ago and have a chance to garden again. I missed that the last 10 years. That was the time I grew some brugs and fell in love with the beauty and the wonderful smell.

My real name is Lucy. My daughter was making fun today when I told her my handle. SHE thought it says, *I* give a little and want a lot. But I came to choose this handle because I started my first Brugs a few weeks ago as a seed and the little fellow looks so cute. So MY thought was, I Â´give little to the earth and I get lots back in return.

I really can not wait to have things grow in my garden so I can participate in the wonderful sharing that is going on here. I read through a lot of postings.

Ok I think that is enough for now.

Glad you joined the group and welocme to ya! Here you will find many friendly people who share the same passion as you ( the love of brugs). You will learn alot and if you have a problem post it here and I am sure someone will have a answer or two to help you out.

By the way I like your thought for your handle. ;0)

Rigo thanks. I LOVE nature in general. It gives you peace.
I hope there won't be to many problems. But I just know that there are lots of helping souls hanging around here.

Hi Dottie. I live in Hickory and come to Charlotte to shop at South Park and eat. Love Charlotte! I have been growing roses for 5-6 years but this year is not so good! Latest count on roses is somehwere between 80-90. I have other shrubs and perennials too. Carla

Thank you Martin. The papaya are growing in 'self watering' containers and all with the same growing medium. Two are in re-purposed kitty litter containers (with the tops), one in a five-gallon bucket design (with top), and one in an Earthbox. The pipes and caps are 1" pvc. The goal for the black plastic is to extend the utility of the non UV protected containers in the Florida sun. Note: The yardstick provides a much needed reference. FYI. I sprouted the seeds indoors and transplanted them on 8/4. The pictures that followed were taken on 9/15. Not a fair test because the Earthbox is larger and well engineered but lessons can be learned. Welcome to the fourm! I jump around to alot of different fourms mainly palms and cycads and plumerias, but also love hibiscus. I have 3 hibiscus all in pots. One of them Ive had for 3 years and I feel like its much more cold tolerant than any other tropical hibiscus. I took it inside 2 years ago because of how long it lasted in the fall and survived 2 frosts and a cool rainy fall with temps usually below 70. It made it through most of the first winter inside with no problems, but then it had so many white flies that I couldnt control them anymore so in late march I took it outside and hoped it would stay above freezing. It didnt on 2 occasions and one of those occasions brought temperatures down to 25 degrees. It looked dead, every leaf was gone, but by may leaves slowly came back and by June it flowered with over 8 flowers on it per day on most days. I brought it in again last year and it started to die around march at first slowly, but then rapidly so I brought it outside in early april as well as my croton which had a severe aphid problem and my lucky bamboo which also had some bug issues. A night got below freezing and both the croton and the lucky bamboo were toast, but the hibiscus made it through barely with the leaves tattered in the cold wind and rain we had the previous night. So far this year it hasnt flowered, but looks far from dead, and actually full so we will see. The second hibiscus I bought from a nursury this year even though it looked pretty pathetic. Now its still not a very full plant, but considering that, it does have very nice blooms with amazing flower colors which are peach and a red in the middle (its a double flowered hibiscus). The last one was from a friend and has nearly doubled in size since last year, but is not a heavy flowerer yet which is okay because its still pretty little and has lots of buds. Thats all the hibiscus I currently have. I dont have any pics of them yet, but if the rain ever stops maybe I can get some in! Good luck

Hi Stray--like you i keep coming back here to check on medusa-wish she would come over to estranged stories and we could support her easier. I like we can message each other direct too. but I will not abandon GW as yet as there are still others-new and old-that need support as well. as u can see i am having a good day myself and i think whe we can be of any service to someone it helps take our mind off our issues with estrangement. Thats a nice thought for your handle. What kind of seeds did you start so I can pick out a brug for you. What colors do you like? Let me know on here if you email me so I know to look for it. Sometimes the gardenweb emails don't go through so don't think I ignore you if I don't get it. What general area of town do you live in? We have an automotive repair shop behind Skateworld about a block down on the right. Precision Automotive Components is the name. I go in about noon til 6 most days unless I am taking a day off for yard work, lol. Stop in and see me sometime and I'll bring you a brug. You can look the number up in the book and ask for Kristy. If I don't answer the phone it will probably be my husband so just tell him you are one of my plant friends and he will give you my cell if I'm not there. You might run into Patty up there in the evenings some days. Her boyfriend races in Killeen and uses our shop after work to get his race car ready.

Kristy I am SO bad with names. So tomorrow I will look all the names up. Somewhere I red a post about planting all the brugs in one spot and you get a rainbow effect. HOW Great. That is ME: I want every color there is lol. I will e mail you when I can come. ok son is calling...got to go. Good night

It just is such a joy to watch things grow from almost nothing at times. Breaking through sometimes even the hardest obsticles from the previous year's seeds that were left behind. Walking a few minutes through the *little* gardenplaces I so far was able to make since last year and seeing new growth, a new blossom, that is energizing .........and it goes and goes and goes *lol*
Kylie I am sure we share the passion for Gardening and YES WOW having found another person in the same CITY loving brugs....YES I feel lucky go happy.
Then coming in from working on another flower/vegetable bed, sitting down a few minutes and reading posts and getting to know each one of you better post by post......is just as relaxing. Thanks to everybody.

HI Lucy, I am kind of new on this forum too. I've been on Gw for years, but never ventured much past the exchanges till this year, ( why? it's a mystery. LOL) Anyway, welcome. and you will love it here, Everyone just welcomed me with open arms..... And taught me how to post pics........... How awesome is that?

ahhhhhh I just wished for the deer to come...since I got one of those unknown trees behind my fence and lookie there is the first one of many. lol

I feel like I fit right in because everybody is real open and yes those arms are WIDE open. Must be from grabbing those BIG wonderful Brug containers all the time.

thanks for the welcome. Today the ground is most likely way to wet to do some digging. So maybe......just maybe I go find my camera so I can share my FIRST Brug seedling that is on its 2nd set of leaves. YEAH baby I am on my way lol. THEN I have to go through the learning process. But now I know who knows how to do it. already opend the site for the photobucket. Can you tell how fast I am? *g*
