Ghost plant leaves

I have a bunch of ghost plant leaves I just got in a trade and I want to try growing them, they are nice big leaves. What would be the best way to try my hand at growing them? Thanks for any help, I hate to waste these beautiful leaves. Also these leaves were on a stem..lol, they broke off during shipping so how do I plant the stem, its a nice size stem but I dont know how to root it. Thanks again.

I haven't grown that species, but I have rooted a similar Graptoveria. I simply set the leaves on top of the soil and watered when the soil dried out like usual. New roots and leaves will grow from the base of the old leaf. Try to set the leaves right side up if you can figure out which way that is. The roots and leaves had to grow around each other on a leaf I layed upside down. Eventually you can cut away the old leaf from the new rosette, or it may shrivel up on its own. Stems can be rooted the same way, but partially burying the stem may make it more secure (provided the cut end is dry and calloused over). A porous soil will reduce the risk of rot, so that is important as well.

Also, my Graptoveria needs a lot of light to stay nice and compact. Even strong artificial light made it etiolate.

I'll hold off on the fertilizing. I've noticed that the soil has been pretty damp for a while now. I haven't watered since I transplanted these three days ago, so I'm wondering if the soil is retaining too much moisture. I was wondering if the pH was off, and was actually going to pick up a ph and moisture meter to check it out. I live in Washington just outside of Seattle. The water is a actually pretty good, but I was thinking about using either the filtered water from the fridge or some rain water the next time I remember to leave a bucket out. As for the tempurature, I'm keeping them between 77 and 80 degrees. The house stays about 70 and the cfl keeps the plants 7 to 10 degrees warmer. Here's the most recent picture. I moved one to work with me, so I'm down to 5 at home. They're getting bigger, but they're not growing as fast as my jalapeÃÂ±os. Maybe replace that Halogen with a CFL. THey can be put within an inch of the plant as they give off almost no heat unlike a Halogen. Removing the heat mat is a good idea as habjolokia said. Also, I dont know what kind of fertilizer you are referring to but if it is liquid, and you are dumping a straight 1/4 shot glass with watering, you may be way over fertilizing. The liquid I use is a 9-3-6 and it is supposed to be cut at the rate of 1 tsp per gallon of water. If yours is a similar ratio, you are probably way overdoing it. Just read the directions and follow them. You may also want to consider a fert with a bit different ratio. Yours is pretty low on the Nitrogen side and high on the Potassium side. That would be a fertilizer maybe better suited to a mature plant that is ready to or already putting out blooms and fruit. But my first guess is that the lighting is your major problem. Bruce

Help ID a few...Ghost Plant? E. 'Tippy' or E. Chihuahuensis?

#3 is not Echeveria imbricate. It looks more like E. 'Dusty Rose' or 'Princess Blue' or similar. #5 could any of those mentioned. Flowers aren't always the answer to ID's because so many look so similar, like "candy corn". I would agree some can be helpful like the large flowers of Echeveria 'Topsy Turvy' or the yellow flowers of some other Echies. The three shown below all have very similar flowers. The other issue is, even with a "name" on a tag when dealing with large commercial growers, the tag could very likely be wrong. As an example, both of my last pics look almost indistinguishable, but the tag on the second one says, "Tippy" and Mr. John Tragger, HBG, has ID'd my last pic. I'm w/ Norma, which one pls? I don't know Ghost Plant to include Graptovera, but do know of it in Gasterias & Graptopetalum.

In that case, I think the above instructions would be great for your leaves. I've had some Graptop p. on a west window sill for a few years, got strong sun & a nice light purple gray color.

Once adjusted to it, this plant will want as much light & even direct sun as you can give it. Enjoy!

Yes indeedy. One that always comes to mind is 'Mock Orange' which refers to a completely different plant depending on where in the country you are.

Good example, just curious & to further make your point -- I know Mock Orange to refer to Jasmin, at least I've seen that here in NYC.

What does Mock Orange refer to in your neck of the woods?
