Holy cow, I am mothering Monarchs!

I usually hang out in the roses forum here at GardenWeb, but in the last couple of days we have discovered we are harboring lots of Monarch caterpillars on our Swamp Milkweed! I was very excited to see two fairly large cats, but about fell over this morning upon findng lots of itty-bitty ones, too!

I only have one large MW plant, and five or six small ones still in their pots, waiting for me to prepare the new garden bed.

What can I do to nurture these babies along and protect them from the birds? I am a little concerned about their running out of food. I don't want to turn this into a formal caterpillar nursery, but sure would like to see these guys make it to butterfly stage.

I can post pics, but have to take them, first.

Thanks in advance!
