There will be seminars as follows:

MOTHS: THE OTHER LEPIDOPTERA - Drs. John & Gloria Tveten

DRAGONFLIES 101: Dr. Joshua Rose

EXOTIC BEAUTY: The Butterflies, Landscapes and People of Mexico - Dr. Jeff Glassberg

BUTTERFLY FARMING: Raising Butterflies for the Exhibit Industry or Up to My Ankles in Caterpillar Frass - Mr. Dale Clark

SPECIALTY BUTTERFLIES of the Lower Rio Grande Valley - Mr. Gil Quintanilla

NATURAL SUPERLATIVES of the Tex-Mex Border - Mr. Ro Wauer

SOUTHEAST TEXAS BUTTERFLIES & GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE: A Year Spent Along a Crossroads in Flux - Mr. David Henderson

and others...

there will be field trips too:

WESTERN VALLEY - Starr County - Rio Grande City and Roma areas. There is a place where the coral vine grows rampant...covering several hundred yards reaching up into the trees - usually covered with thousands and thousands of butterflies during the fall season. Truly a sight to behold!!!

MID-VALLEY - Weslaco area - Valley Nature Center, Fronter Audobon Sanctuary, Estero Llano Grande State Park World Birding Center and Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge. Each has wonderful butterfly larval and nectar plants growing - lots of good butterflies to see.

EASTERN VALLEY - coastal area in Cameron county - Laguna Atascosa NWR and Hugh Ramsey Nature Park/WBC. Laguna Atascosa is noted as the place to see Blue Metalmarks.

EDINBURG WETLANDS - Edinburg World Birding Center and Butterfly Gardens, NABA IBP (North American Butterfly Association International Butterfly Park) and Bentsen WBC - lots of excellent butterfly nectar sources and larval hosts. Combined, more species of butterflies have been found at these three sites than anywhere else in North America!!!

RANCHO LOMITAS - Starr County - a privately owned ranch of the one of the nation's top ethnobotanists. A native plant nursery is located here. Lots of meadows filled with wildflowers.

DRAGONFLY TREK - visit various sites like NABA IBP, Bentsen WBC, Anzalduas County Park, Edinburg Wetlands/WBC, Santa Ana NWR.

BLACKLIGHTING TRIP - an evening trip to usually Bentsen WBC, Anzalduas, Santa Ana or other places where black lights and a white sheet are set up to attract moths. Nearby trees are usually baited during the day time and by the time we get to them in the evening lots of moths are gathered as well. I went on my first Blacklighting trip last year and absolutely loved it!!! These trips are fantastic for moth-ers.

There is also a BANQUET DINNER (casual attire of course) on Saturday, October 20th. Several vans drive us to a privately owned ranch out in the country. A Texas Tradition!!! Getting from the main gate to the dinner area usually entails mule drawn carriages or a trolley type transportation through some wonderful scenery. Our guest speaker last year was David Wagner...this year it will be DR. JEFFREY GLASSBERG. :o) Most all the butterfly book authors and photographers will be there too. A great time to meet and greet. Am fairly sure David Wagner, Jim Brock, Paul Opler, Bob Behrstock, John & Gloria Tveten, Phil Schappert, Mike Quinn, Ed Knudson, Charles Bordelon, Mike Overton and many others will be there.
