I don't know at what point 'Rosea Striata' became two words. That does make it more confusing. It's also been called roseostriata, roseo-lineata, Rosea-striata and all kind of other permutations, but at any rate it's the red lineated form of Neo. farinosa (maybe? See Uncle Derek's comments) and has nothing at all to do with Neo. rosea. R-s 'Bird Rock' is apparently a hybrid of it, and as such shouldn't really carry the "rosea-striata" name at all, but since Bird Rock is just the name of the nursery that it came from that doesn't seem quite like a legitimate cv. name by itself either. It doesn't look that much like a rosea-striata anyway. For one thing it's purple, not red, and the striation in this case occurs in the silver scurf that covers the leaf, so you have these silver stripes over a purple background, particularly on the underside of the leaf. It's a very unique and easily recognizable cultivar. It's also not a viable plant for breeding, as the flowers don't open up and seem to be sterile. A worse example of confusing naming is Neo. tigrina and Neo. ampullacea 'Tigrina'. That simply should not be. Here is a link that might be useful: Uncle Derek says: Rosea Striata

Barb - welcome to the forum! We're happy you've decided to join us! Does kind of look like sunburn to me. Actually, my incarnatas do best with a little shade anyway. It takes awhile to become comfortable enough to raise the caterpillars. I think it took me about 2 years of posting on the forum before I began raising them, so don't feel bad. Lots of people here don't raise them in containers anyway; they just let nature take its course, and that's fine, too! I am raising more this year primarily because we've had so much rain this year. Consequently, we have many more predators than we usually do in Oklahoma City. Predators that love to eat, suck dry, and generally dispose of caterpillars. So, I've been bringing them in to raise. Believe me, I'm not 100% successful. There are diseases and problems that we all experience. But, I would bet that our survival rate is better than if they were left in the wild....especially this year! LOL! Please keep coming back and asking questions and offering information based on your experience, too! Susan

Thanks Ana, I never would have thought to place it in shade for a little while after transplanting. I figure since they adore the full sun here, it would be best. And I agree too, it appears as though it's experiencing a sever shock. I'll move it first thing tomorrow morning to a shadier location while it recovers, and hope that that helps. Some of the leaves are beginning to return to their original bushy, sturdiness. Meanwhile others are starting to yellow, although whether from the buckets of rain, or shock or both remains to be known. Thanks for the tip!
