PLEASE REASEARCH!! I got thins in an eamil today. The links dont work Properly but when I googled the name of the bill it looks to be real! THIS IS CRAZY!!!Brandy

OUTLAW ORGANIC GARDENING !!

I USED TO LIVE IN A COUNTRY KNOWN AS AMERICA.THE LAND OF THE FREE,THE HOME OF THE BRAVE.FAR,FAR AWAY WAS A COUNTRY CALLED RUSSIA.COMUNISUM WAS THEIR WAY.

NOW THAT IM OLDER I WONDER WHO LIVES IN THE COMUNIST COUNTRY TODAY!

The U.S.

house and senate are about to vote (in a week and a half!) on

a law that will OUTLAW ORGANIC FARMING!! Main backer is (of course)

Monsanto chemical and engineering giant corporation.

This bill will

require organic farms to use specific fertilizers and POISONOUS insect

sprays dictated by the newly formed agency to "make sure there is no

danger to the public food supply".

This will include back yard gardens

that grow food only for family use. If this passes.

no more heirloom

clean seeds but only Monsanto genetically altered seeds that are now

showing up with UNEXPECTED DISEASES in humans!

There is an enormous rush to get this into law within the next two

weeks before the people realize what's happening.

I am not one that likes big government or goverment controls, But we are getting more and more government controls everyday in all walks of life and many are more intrusive than this bill. What I detest about these threads is the repetition of such obvious lies and blame gaming. This bill in its worst scenario only affects market growers who cross state lines. States will continue to control within the state. That will probably change in the future, but at present the feds only regulate interstate commerce. The driving force is the recent Salmonella and E, coli scares. Monsanto, Syngenta, Vilmorin, Dupont etc has little to do with it. It does not have a huge impact on ag chemical sales which is their big concern.

Using the term "Nazi" to characterize the U.S. government is an appalling insult to every person in the U.S.A. People use the term "Nazi" far too freely. Were this government truly run by "Nazis" many of us would be in prison camps or worse yet, in ovens. We should thank our lucky stars that there is no "Nazi" government here. Who do you think the government is? If you're here in the U.S. it's all of us, like it or not. Those of us who vote, have sent the representatives that are in Congress, elected the President, etc. I wish people would refrain from characterizing others as "Nazis" because the users obviously have no clue of how horrific Nazism really is. Additionally, (and I'll just speak to Americans on this...) we are our government whether we choose to admit it or not. We can point fingers at "them" all we want but we put "them"there and "they" pretty much stay at "our" pleasure. I do understand the frustration that is rampant amongst people in the U.S. I get frustrated with the government for sure but...it is not run by Nazis and to characterize the government that way is just plain wrong. Additionally, if someone has a beef with the government, tell the government don't tell me. Do something about it. Nothing changes when all one does is run one's mouth with invective at the problem. It solves nothing and one becomes part of the problem.

Well, since we are at it, you want a clear cogent message. When I speak to reporters, I write down my messages and keep them in front of me and make sure I say my important messages at least twice. This is an advantage for me as if the reporter sees it, I don't appear like a professional, but I am organized and my words are cogent so it works. Now. So for this topic, the message is maybe something like: The intent of the bill is a noble one: to protect our food supply. But the text of the bill, as worded, is unnecessarily burdensome to family farmers. Especially in these economic times. So the important points above: intent is noble protect food supply text needs revision Family farmers will be burdened So much so we don't want to risk any more jobs These 5 bullets show that you get it and are concerned about the consequences, but support the intent. Family Farmers is a powerful metaphor. You want action in this case. Education is for another time. Lawmakers get it. Tell them you want some revisions so Family Farmers are protected. Note also how the OCA text I linked to above is written. And how I differed the style of my sentences in this comment and above. Short sentences for the message. But, you can also use commas for when you explain a topic, so that the tone changes. Commas change voice tone. Short sentences convey a message, something you want to keep in mind, just in case you get an audience. Dan

If one were to actually read what the Organic Consumers Association has to say they would find that most of what sandybeach has written is hogwash. There is nothing in this bill, meant to require the USFDA to do the job it was meant to do back when Theodore Roosevelt signed the Pure food and Drug Act that established the FDA as part of the USDA. Much of what the FDA is supposed to do was made nearly immposible during the Reagan administration when major cutbacks in personnel kept inspections from being done.

I do need to read a bit closer and more BUT
there is no way to Police the backyard gardener..
The New Term.. from what I understand is Naturally Grown.. That way you avoid all of the Organic BS...They have lots of rules .. Check it out when you shop...Lots of Naturally Grown products in your store.. Thanks for Posting Brandy... I am printing and googling right now..LOL

Here's a link to the text of the proposed bill (HR 875) if anyone wants to read it. *yawn* Articles I've read about the bill criticize the vague language. Lawmakers swear it is not their intention to investigate every back yard grower or small farm, however, the bill in its present form has no exemptions stated and can be broadly interpreted.

WIth all the crap going on in this world this is what they are concerned with right now. Are you kidding me. Not feeding the hungry, stoping wars, ending homelessness. How much money will be needed to inforce this. LOL Talk about a great way to Create jobs. I hope you have faith in a higher power than the goverment or you may be in trouble. LOL If im not mistaken all the problems with Samonella are coming from companies that are supervized by the goverment. The backyard Garders seem to have things togther. They need to take some lessons from us on how to grow, tomatos, peanuts and Pistachos. LOL Grin and bear it I guess.

What, gonna yell at me about my fish emulsion? My horse apples?

Ya know, there are SO many more important things going on, they need to STFU and focus.

Quit worrying about what a home gardener is using for home consumption.

And if they drop by, they'll be welcome to some of my tomatoes which I will assure them are organic. See if they'd rather eat one of MY tomatos than one of those weirdo gassed ones coming from who knows where.

And we know how well THOSE are inspected. . . .
