What likes my Painted Lady more then me??

I got this new brug a week ago and it was growing so nice. We had over 6 inches of rain in past 2 days. I brought the plants up on the deck but this am when I go out.....my painted lady is chewed up....any suggestions as what would do this? The other noid brugs are not touched.

I'd check for caterpillars. The edges look a bit ragged for slug damage. Hope you find what's making a meal of your brug.

Grrrrrrrr, that looks like a caterpillar.

That happened to some of mine too. Never DID find the snarky bugger, but sprayed it down with some neem oil and murphys oil soap, let it sit, then blasted with a hose (can't leave mine in the sun with that on it) And I didn't have much of a problem after that.

They moved on to the OTHER stuff HA! Those and the japanese beetles. . .mean little bugs. . . .

Linda if I could convince my older children to move I'd be there in a NY second! DH wanted to move to FL 22 years ago when we were first married but I refused (kicking myself now!). Six years ago I finally decided that moving there would be a good thing and we had a realtor showing us houses in Weston then I found out I was pregnant with Kyle. It was just too much to move with a surprise baby on the way and most of my family and friends in this area. Now my oldest is in HS, middle is in middle school and they don't want to leave their friends. So I guess I'm stuck here, at least for the next 14 years until Kyle's in college. By that time DH will be 66 and me not that far behind. Yikes!!!

Sherry, thank you so much for the ID and for the explanation of how you determine the difference. I didn't locate a photo of the wing underside and the photos of the top side of both Ladies looked very similiar to me. I agree, the underside is so colorful and different. I could hardly believe the difference when it spread its little wings and I could see the back. Going to go and correctly tag the photos right now. And thank you for the nice compliments on the photos. A picture is, indeed, worth a thousand words, especially when you're trying to ID these little guys. Got my two Passi incarnata vines planted out yesterday and hope to see a gulf frit one day, too. I planted them in a big pot and am using a wooden teepee trellis over the pot. I've never seen this vine grow so don't know if it will be enough trellis but time will tell. My garden is small and I didn't want to have it coming up in unusual spots! Hopefully, the vine roots are hardy enough that it can overwinter in the pot. Are you guys getting some of this very hot weather? Heat index here today is supposed to be between 105-110. Mary

I just love how this plant is developing. Those blossoms are staying erect even during the hottest times of the day...Love the ruffly skirts and the curled tendrils. I would love to cross this with Angels Exotic because she too has very beautiful ruffles and curls also and she is a double...with Sam as the daddy in my new cross, I think we may see something really pretty from a cross like this...The best thing about this baby is the color...I just love it!!

Today began the sawing out of my concrete slab in the basement because the builder put in 3 2x6s instead of a metal support pole in one location. Yes, we caught it way back when...we were told "not to worry about it". However when the 2x6s started to bow one of the "good guys" nearly died this winter when he saw it. So, being that my nerves are as frazzled as they possibly can be at this point in the day (imagine the fire alarms going off because of gas powered saw and all the fumes) along with all the banging, etc....so, I'll be having something later from that bar cart. Neat. No diluting necessary. I feel like Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies..."I need my nerve medicine"

That doesn't look like insects or slugs to me. Too jagged. Have you had any heavy rains or hail lately? I see rips like that when i have brugs beneath something that catches rain and pours it down on the brugs. If your brug sits in the shade of a tree or an umbrella or something like that, it can concentrate water downwards and it will make tears that look just like that on your leaves.

winds...? I know all of my brugs look a lot worse from the haildamage but seeing your picture reminded me of mine.

I found that those huge grasshoppers do a lot of bad nibbling to mine at times.

russ good think is, those angels continue to grow. Regardless if they loose a few leaves.

I was thinking Hail as it was loading.. I have had so much wind damage .. Not that... the leaves would look burnt.. Looks to me like someone is snacking on them also...I know this time of year we have Elm Worms.. you know those creepy little guys that drop out of the trees on silk on you as you pass by..EWWWW They eat everything in site for about a month and then they are gone till next yr..

Get a spray bottle and mist the undersides of each leaf as you look at it. I almost bet you will see an itsy tiny green worm eating his way around the plant. One can do that kind of damage litterally overnight then squash him, lol. They are so near the leaf color I can't spot them unless they squirm when I squirt them until they get bigger. By then they can nearly eat the thing to nothing but stems.
