Butterfly Garden

Finally, I found something

My husband and I went to a place here close to us called Ricketts Glen. It's a beautiful place with hiking trails and waterfalls. As we walking we found a ton of butterflies-Spicebush, red admirals, and tiger swallowtails. There were tons of them everywhere!

On the way back I bent down to check the Stinging Nettles and found one that was closed. I remembered what Miss Sherry said about the caterpillars closing them and when I opened it, there was a red admiral caterpillar! Thanks for the advice Miss Sherry! I am so happy to have a caterpillar to raise-He is so cute but, the plant they pick-ouch! I took off my socks and picked a lot to take home with me. It is keeping pretty good in the water.

I included a pic of the Swallowtails-I just can't get a close-up of the caterpillar.

Those are red-spotted purples, Aggie, and they're some of the prettiest ones I've ever seen!
I'm glad you've got a red admiral to raise, but I wish you had some false nettles to raise it on - they don't sting.

Yeah I know you're not supposed to export them, well I didn't know when I purchased that first Key Lime. It's funny though, with the latest trip down there I flew and I was nervous about bringing it back on the plane. The lady at the stand said it wouldn't be a problem and I even went as far as call the airline and the airport and both said that it didn't matter that it was a citrus.

Yep, their site is closed. I happened to copy some pics off of their site before it closed and still have them on my web page, but the links don't work. too bad, because they had some great ideas. I'd love to see a copy of the desk if you could scan it or something.

Ok now I think I get it too- you are just showing as a point of reference how the rooms play off of each other, and are thinking that in addition to doing the kitchen, you would also do the fireplace wall and the wall perpendicular to it(facing the kitchen).... I think that sounds good, but being the cautious type, I think maybe have that in mind but first just do the kitchen - I do think that will look great. And, chances are doing it in the family room will be nice as well, but you might just decide that it could be too much... so I would wait and do one step at a time. Of course , that is my bias because I frequently don't see the obvious and need time to "digest". To repeat though, I do think the larger tiles in the latest rendition will be wonderful in your kitchen. (I believe we have a winner!) :)

I have had horrible outbreaks of them in the past and this year have had some - I usually find them when I take bulbs out in the spring and see the little buggers in the bulb scales. I use classic pesticides as a drench as they can attack the roots as well and have killed some of my plants in the past. They can be a real hassle to get rid of completely. Hope your method has worked to get rid of all of them :o) Dan

Were in Northeastern PA, near the Poconos. It's a great area, I can not complain at all. We have a lot of different types of Butterflies and Moths. When I printed out the list in my area it was four pages long.

Two days ago my husband saw a Luna Moth at work- he said the time it spent there on the screen-everyone that walked by would say "oh look the Lunesta Moth!!" It caused quite a commotion he said.

That sounds like a great find! I looked at the website and would love to go up and see the water falls. I think I live an hour or two from there.

Hehe Aggie, the Lunesta moth... Oh Doctor, could I have some of THAT sleep aide so I can go to sleep and dream about butterflies? It's really a great ad..tying in the Luna moth with blissful rest.

Gwynne it is worth the trip for sure, I think. If you like to hike and look at all different types of plants and trees then this is the place. As soon as I walked into the woods I spotted a Tulip Tree, I never thought I would ever see one here! They were all over the path as we walked. While your walking, the whole side of the path is Nettle, stinging nettle but, nettle. We go there at least 10 times a season. After dinner it's nice to go and walk it off! It takes us about 20 minutes to get there, and its such a nice ride.

MaryAnn it is cool isn't it? That is next for what I want to find and see up close-a Luna Moth.

I do like to hike and I love taking pictures. I would be trying to see all the waterfalls!

I wouldnt know what a tulip tree looks like if I tripped over one! Are the trees labeled for beginners, by any chance? There is a little park near my and the trees are labeled. Cant remember what kinds of trees they have.

No there not labeled but, that is a great idea! I wish they would do something like that..

The only reason I know what a Tulip tree is because I saw a picture of one in a book, after I read a Eastern Tiger Swallowtail would lay eggs on one. It has the funniest shaped leaves I ever saw! I took a picture of one, check it out!
