Hi Carolina, Torrential rains don't sound ideal. If you keep them in a pot, it seems like it would be ideal to move them under shelter during the rains, then back out for sun. A lot of work, but possible. A lot depends on the expected size/height of the dahlia too. Your pot sounds a bit too small unless it is a smaller container dahlia (18-24 inches or so tall.) I've grown 4 ft dahlias in pots, but they were larger shrub pots each with a stake. (see the link below) They provided enough flowers and tubers, and got full height, but I think the garden dahlias of the same variety grew better overall. Could be the soil in the garden was better. Maybe your garden soil is more fertile as well or rose fertilizer is helping the dahlias along? I would think the sun needed for roses would be good for dahlias too, but I'd hope for at least 45 cm/ 18" all around and more space would be better for a larger dahlia. It can't hurt to try one there. Those are my thoughts without knowing much about Costa Rica, but it sure sounds nice! I wish you well in whatever you decide to do. I'm not one of the pros, but I'd prefer to see the garden in that little are inside of the walkway, between the house and walkway. What do you like? What are the shrubs that you outlined the walkway with? Where (nearest city) do you live? What are the dimensions in that semi-circle area? I envision something tallish between the door and the window to the right, but I couldn't make suggestions on specific plants unless you live in north Texas :-) I know that the folks that do the 'mock ups' would prefer pictures without the mower and other stuff in the frame because to show you a finished design, they'll have to edit all of that out of these pictures before they can show you something nicer.

Sorry to be the one to tell you, the leaves may still look good but we all recognize that the 2 remaining roots are dead. Dry crunchy & brittle roots are dead. You could just twist them off w/ your fingers. Pls feel the base of the plant, w/ a light squeeze btwn your fingers. If soft & mushy it's already rotted & should be tossed. If still firm there's a MINOR chance it might survive. But yes, you've got some reading to do if you wish to do better next time.

Did you put tape over each of the individual wire ends in the cord, or did you simply stick one piece of tape over the whole stub? If you did the latter, it's possible that the conductors could short to one another at some point. The standard repair would be to carefully strip the outer jacket of the cord/cable back about 1" and then put a piece of tape over each of the ends of the insulated conductors (there may also possibly be a bare ground in the cord, too, that you don't have to worry about if it can't contact the other wire ends). If this is just a piece of lamp cord without an outer jacket, then it would be best to split the two conductors down the middle for an inch and then tape them. And it should go without saying that you do this with the power source turned off.
