as we all know.. or should now...... the second set of Kalancho leavea are supposed to split....... NOT THIS ONE

Wow... That IS weird! Don't Split it yourself... Wait and see what it does! That's pretty cool! Keep us informed of it's growth! Preferably under this post so it's easier to remember :-)

Oh I received my babies a few weeks back. I placed them in a little pot with moist soil and put them in a plastic zipper bag, in the window. They are now almost two inches tall and looking beautiful!!!! Thank you so much for sharing :)

This plant has actually been put into the group Bryophyllum now. It's one that's a cute novelty kind of plant, but after you've pulled a bazillion of them from all your neighboring pots, you get a little tired of it. One year, I put one in the ground on the south side of my house in spring. It grew to nearly 3' high, when winter came, I dug it up and brought it in (silly me...) But, to my delight, it bloomed... After that, it got really crappy looking, so I tossed it, but not before it shed another bazillion babies. I thought I was getting pretty good at pulling the plants before they had a chance to develop plantlets, but this fall, when I pulled my plants in from my back deck, I found about a dozen of them growing in the cracks of the deck behind the row of plants! Took about 3 good hard frosts to finally kill them off... Denise in Omaha

I'm with Kevin, probably about a 5 out of 10 on the Invasiveness Scale, lol. I grow this one, and several others too and really like them, but I DO spend a fair bit of time now and then removing extra babies from even the most unlikely places! Without supplemental water they won't expand into totally unwatered soil long term, but if soil gets even an occasional hand watering the babies will pop up and root. I don't mind, but some folks do. My large ones bloom in late winter/early spring and the blooming plant dies, but there are always lots of babies of course, hah. I like them. Let us know how things go, happy gardening!

Do more plantlets form on the leaves that just had a 'litter'? Or once the leaves produce the plantlets, do those particular leaves not produce them again? The plant I got about 5 or 6 weeks ago has already produced and dropped 'babies' from the 2 newest leaves. So I just wonder if those two leaves will grow more plantlets or will only the new leaves that are coming in on this mother plant produce them? Once a leaf produces the 'babies' is it done or will it produce more? Thanks!

That looks more like a Crassula ovata than a Kalanchoe to me. Particularly, the leaf shape & the edges. Very cool, whatever it is!

I can assure its a kalnachoe... mother of a thousand.... those leaves are the seed leaves.... the will eventuall fall off... thats when the real magic start with this plant... because that bowl you see there is suppoesed to be split into 2 leaves... but i dont know how its going to grow now that it is a single leaf... ill keep yall posted...

well... all it did was send out a baby out of the seed leave axils...... like when you top a jade..... it sends out offshoots........ well... its still going to be curious on how it fares..
