OT- I got my order from Kartuz greenhouse.

I order ichoroma plants, gingers and cestrum from Karuz greenhouse. I got everything I asked for, in just 2 weeks. I have indigo, plum beauty, ruby red, and sunset iochroma, red and dark purple ginger, and dark yellow and purple cestrum. I cannot believe how great the plants were. I received them a week ago and they had to sit in the box, while I was at the coast. I replanted them yesterday when I got home. They really sent some nice healthy plants. I will recommend them to anyone. I asked for alot of plants that were listed as sold out, and they mailed them all to me. I can't wait to plant them at the coast. I wish you could see those brugmansia from filtyrich, they look like they are on hormones. Do I need to plant the iochroma in full sun, or partial shade? I am running out of room, so I need to move something so I can plant them. Barbra,

I can't believe you got them so fast! I've never received my orders in a reasonable time frame from Kartuz but the plants have always been nice for the price. They have a great selection and I still order from them. I got some of my first iochromas from them. You might notice whitish tan bumps along some of the mature iochroma stems that look just like scale. Look very carefully before treating or trying to pick them off. Some iochromas naturally develop these bumps and they are perfectly normal. I found this out after mutilating more then a few plants. lol

Here's a pic of the root structure on the Forestville Double.... A little winding around to unravel before planting, but all in all I like it. It was definitely ready to be moved to a larger pot. The bud is still hanging on. Can't believe it survived shipping. We'll see if it survives having its roots untangled. Both plants have really perked up after their shipping adventure. They've been sitting on the kitchen window sill, which is the brightest spot in my house. I always like to let potted plants sit for a few days in the kitchen to help them stabilize after shipping, and adjust to the climate change after leaving the greenhouse. Ryan

I dont have a name for it...It is the very first plant Al bought me for the gardens so it is very special to me ..I wanted you to have it for your gardens too..:) I know you wanted cannas so waa laa I am glad I could be there for you after all you have done for me and everybody else here... I bet your gardens are looking spectalur after all this hard work you are putting into them...:) We need to see pictuers of that new brug bed you made... Lucy if I remember right that oxalis came from nancy here..Too many trades hard to remember but I believe so..I sent here a few of yours this week...:) My goal in life is to collect every single oxalis there is..hahahha Well I wanted to send you a picture so you could see it as I dont have a name for it..lost in the wind...It gets 5-6 ft tall and is a good grower you will have lots of bulbs from her at the end of the season....Barb

I would have a jungle if it would stop freezing. From 1994 to 2009 we had less than 1 hr of freezing weather in Rockport, so I had the most beautiful yard. My yellow bells and tropical shrubs were taller than the roof. Then 2009 we had 3 solid days of freezing weather. I cannot begin to tell you what I lost. Last year I went to Florida, and meet Carol at Florida Colors and replaced all my plumeria and desert roses. Thinking the freeze was just a fluke, I felt we probably would not have another freeze for at least 15 years. Then it happened again this Feb. So their is no jungle. I have switched to tropical hibiscus, and moved away from the Puerto Rico Tropical plants. None of them came back. This year I decided I would replace some of the brugmansia and iochroma plants I lost last year. Maybe next year, I will have that jungle. I am still replacing palm trees right now. Everytime I dig up a dead one, I save $1500, its slow, but I am getting there. Barbra

WOW!!! Sounds wonderful!! Glad you are so pleased I can't wait to see them in there new homes at the coast..
I havn't ever shopped there... maybe I should check them out.. I would love a Red Iochroma...

I just wanted to let everyone know, that just because it says sold out, you still might be able to get the plant. I got half of my order from plants that had sold out listed, they were not as large as the ones that were in stock, but who cares. I wish someone would tell me the best place to plant them, no instructions were included. In zone 9 should I plant them in full sun, or afternoon shade, or afternoon sun? I do not want to make a mistake, I have waited so long to get the icohroma. Has anyone had any luck on propagating them, other than seeds? Barbra,

Barbara I grow most of mine in full sun. My scarlet one gets afternoon shade but to be on the safe side I'd plant them so they get protection during the hottest part of the day. The sun is more intense in your zone then here. I don't feed or water them like I do brugs. They get fed about once a month and allowed to dry some between waterings. That's once they are established. You'll have to abay them a bit at first. I don't have great results propagating iochromas from cuttings. It seems that I have better luck water rooting with no bottom heat and semi woody stems work the best for me. One problem I've had is losing the plant several months after it's rooted and appears to be doing well. A few other people I know have had the same problem. Enjoy the iochromas. I think they are beautiful.

I grow mine in morning sun and afternoon sun.. They would just fry in full sun here..
