Brug Update No 2

So the brug is filling in nicely. I checked the NOID white seedlings outside and those are a bit behind the frosty pink as far as new growth (they are a lot younger too- 2 years from seed)but they are also refoliating. The warm days (70s) have pushed TONS of growth on pretty much everything--even the weeds, which i have to constantly keep fighting. Anyway heres the frosty pink:

Petunia mounds in full bloom. Interesting that only the south side of the mounds have blooms.

And the callistemon citrinus is full of these little buds. Should be flowering soon!

It's so nice to see some color. Lucky you! I will take an uneducated guess when your Brug will bloom! May 15TH?!?!

I left a few inground last year and did pretty much the same thing you did to overwinter them. None of mine put out any growth. I did dig around and saw what looked like healthy white roots so I left them for another month, still nothing so I dug them up. By the time I dug them up the roots had begun to rot. I'm in 7a and we had an exceptionally cold Feb-Apr and a very late spring. Maybe that's what did mine in. I'm not going to attempt to overwinter any inground anymore. They'll all go in the garage or the unheated greenhouse for the winter. Karyn

pool water and suffering brug update

Its the adult children that forget to turn off the water the parents rarely overflow their pool. They also treat the pool with chlorine when they fill it. I just dont think that it can be a coincidence that my brug gets sick nearly every time it overflows. One time it didnt and he assured me that he did not treat the pool that day and the brug was due to be watered. It could be a combination of too much water/chlorine and very hot temps.Although my queen palm, pygmy date palm and my heliconia seem fine. I did loose a red banana.thanks for any info. colleen

Very good! Mine are doing the same. They were not uprooted, but were scarred badly by the limbs falling on them. One had a bloom this morning! The limbs that were broken off have put out roots in the bucket of water. I gave them to someone who came by wanting plants. The Daturas that were uprooted last year during Ivan, did not make it through the winter, but had survived and bloomed until the cold weather. Be sure to take some cuttings, just in case!

How pretty, and so full and lush! I have a small white noid which is in bud right now, and it holds its flowers in the same position. It's the only one I have that does. Love the photos!

Some of mine are already starting to bloom sporadically here and setting buds sooo I am gonna guess April 15th.

I've got a question for all of you experienced brug growers:

Since there is growth above the "y", will that bloom before the growth below the Ys? or will there not be much difference?

It looks like it's filling in nicely. Glad that you were able to salvage it. A brug won't bloom without forming a "Y". Any branch that is going to support a flush will "Y" before setting buds. There might be a variety or two that's an exception to this rule but I'm not sure about that.

The only one I've heard of that blooms along the stem without having to grow new Ys first is Inca Sun. I don't know how true this is, but I ordered one of these so will find out this summer:)

I have a Rosalla I bought that made a flower in the middle of its stem and now has a seedpod hanging there. There is no Y there either just a staight stem.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe that cutting was a half the top part of a Y itself.
It has since grown and made a Y @ 5 inches above that seedpod.

Yep, the inca sun does. It's really neat. I bought a couple - my father has them.

This year, I'll feed them to push the growth, I didn't last year because I got them so late. I didn't want a bunch of brand new green growth to die in hibernation. (Which they HAVEN'T) They are sitting down there in the cold place with GREEN on them. They refuse to go to sleep. Mom keeps yelling at them. (grin) I told her don't bother yelling at them now - it's almost time to wake them up.

Well, I'm too new to give an opinion here..but I just wanted to say that everything looks beautiful.
