Misssherry, please help with passiflora caerulea

I dont know if I did the correct thing with my passiflora caerulea. I put it in a pot near the iron fence. I dont have any twine. Yesterday was my first chance to improvise. I took the thick string from some broken venetian blinds and tied to strips from the top to the bottom of the iron fence. I then wrapped the passiflora caerulea around it. I dont know if passiflora is supposed to look like this, but there is a foot of it near the bottom with no leaves. There are three vines and they have leaves, but at the top. Is this normal? I am wondering if I should do what Tdogmom says and use twist ties because I am afraid of the plant getting all tangled up. If I do use string or twine, am I supposed to wrap the vine around it?
