I'm new too but I noticed this too when the heat increased! The ones in pots I moved out of the sun and they seem to be recovering, the 3 in the ground are positioned so either my house or my neighbors house shades them during the most intense sun hours. Does it get full all afternoon sun?

This one is in a pot, in a semi shaded position. I remember now that before this happened, I gave it a handfull of 10-10-10 fertilizer, and doused it with Orthonex. I don't remember how long before, and I don't think it was the same day, but maybe the same week. Thinking about it, it may have gotten drenched more than the others.....but I don't remember. I might have dosed it because of the funkey curled leaves. YES, actually I think it was the same week as the 10-10-10, but before the Orthonex. Here are a few images. The new leaves 1st curled, and then turned holy:

Is it going to die? Will it recover? Anything I can do?

If you can, invest in a PH test kit. PH has a great effect on how your plant takes up and uses nutrients. Could be an easy fix. Please read the info in this link.

Also, Brugs seem to be very sensitive to any sprays. If that is what is causing this, it will straighten out on its own. HTH Good luck. Georgia

Orthenex,or any other systemic can be hard on the leaves.That said,what you have sounds like edema.That is caused by the leaves filling with water faster than they can get rid of it(transpiration).What you are seeing is probably ruptured cells.They can look a mess but aren't fatal.I will never forget the first time I saw edema in my greenhouse plants.I was sure I had some strange new bug or fungus.A panicked phone call brought my friendly APHIS inspector who nearly died laughing when he saw the mess.I kid you not,they looked past dead.Two weeks later the new leaves had come in and everything was fine.

Rsieminski, how are your brugs doing? I've got hawaiian double white, versicolor peach and tiara that I just put in the ground the last couple of weeks to join my first one from last fall Frosty Pink. I did notice the blistering initially but now they seem like they've adjusted.

Gone2seed, I think you are exactly right! Because it was hot and I was worried they might not like being transplanted outside so I kept giving them frequent waterings and then when I saw the blistering, I assumed it was sunburn and gave them more water! I've laid off on the water and I noticed they are growing and only occasionally have a blistered or puckered looking leaf.

That one is doing great again. I think my problem in particular, was the orthonex. I'll go a little easier next time. i have another question, I'll post, but ask you guys here as well.
Does anyone snip the lower leaves to push growth upward. the lower leaves look fine, and I really hate to snip good leaves, as they provide energy for the plant and all that, but sometimes it's helpful to prune plants for growth. So, should I get rid of some of the lower leaves, and make them look like trees, or let them go on their own?

I'm experimenting with this. I planted my rooted frosty pink last fall, let it grow and then stripped off all the lower leaves and I've been striping off half of every Y that comes up. I am trying to train it into a tree form, I've got it stakes and so far it seems like it is forming a single, sturdy trunk but who knows if it will flower, etc this year. The frosty is supposed to be one of the easiest brugs so I figured worse come to worse, I would cut it down, let it re-emerge from the roots and root the cuttings.

The others I'm lettg grow, if at the end of the summer I find a very tall shoot, I'm going to take it as a cutting and try to form a tree formed one from it.

What are you doing with your brugs so far?

well, I have about 21vars in the ground around the yard, and have about 9 or 10 more to sink into the ground. So far, i hav just let them go, and the ones in mostly sun, have done the best. They're all so bushy, I hate to trim off the bottom leaves, but I think that ought to make it want to grow taller and pu out more leaves there. Trimming them would give me room for thicker mulch underneath. I'll try it on a row of them and see how they do.

21 plus 9 or 10 more! Wow! I thought I was addicted! That is going to be some yard when they all start blooming. Any pictures? :)

In my experience, the best way to get a tree form is to let one grow for at least one year as it wants to establish a good root system. {{gwi:470483}} (even easier than green cuttings)

Those make a small tree form plant, but to get a big one, let a new shoot come up from the roots. (Cut off any others.) It will grow to it's genetically programmed height before Y'ing. If that's not tall enough for you by the end of the summer, whack it off below the main Y and save the trunk and rootball for the following spring. If you are where you can leave them in the ground all year, even better.

A new shoot will start somewhere near the top of the trunk. There may be several, but choose one and cut off the rest. This shoot will continue to grow until it's ready to Y again.

If you look at the larger images linked, you can see right about where it crosses my arm a slight offset. That's where the new growth started from the old trunk.

That is a great looking tree! That is exactly what I want! Thank you for sharing your technique. Mine will be in the ground year round so I am defintely going to try your method. Hopefully, mine will look half as nice as yours! What kind of brug is it? Which ones are "late y'ers"? Thanks!

Will snipping off the other shoots make the main shoot grow faster? I mean, right now i have bushes, and they are exploding with growth. If I snip all but 1 basil shoot, will all the growth/energy go into growth of that 1 shoot, and make it grow faster/taller?

Another thought: We get quite a bit of wind, how do the trees take the wind?
