O.T. I desperatly need your help!!!!!
Comments (5)Hi, Susan! #1: If you look up the zones for your plants, anything hardy to zone 4 or colder will survive in a container. Plunking it into a compost pile or pile of mulch would probably be enough for zone 5 stuff, too. That way you don't even have to dig at the new place. Can you have a compost pile at the new place? You could easily make a huge one at this time of year, with all the leaves put to the curb in bags. #2: The plants will put down roots until the ground freezes, so they do have a decent amount of time. Putting hot caps on them would help, too. If you really want to be sure these guys will survive: can you have a greenhouse? Those plastic zip-up ones could protect a LOT of plants, and give them more time to get established (in the ground). They're not all that expensive, either. #3: I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing this weekend, but it will be in Lombard. Do you need help digging things up? I can help for a few hours! Maybe Scott can, too. I have tons of containers....See MoreO.T. country gardens

Comments (13)Or you could have a house like we do. We live in a 105 year old house, and we obviously have mice (our 2 cats occasionally catch one here and there especially during the cold months when they come in). Here's the fun part - not only do we have a mouse issue, but we now have a SNAKE issue - they are coming in to catch the mice. We found 2 skins in our attic last summer. I know its nice and warm up there and they probably were going after birds that may have found their way into our attic space - (no birds are up there now of course - and I check because that can be some nasty stuff to deal with...) now my husband tells me that 2 days ago he found a 5' snake skin in our BASEMENT!. I'm 99% sure its a black rat snake or similar, but just the idea that this thing is crawling through our walls gives me the chills. Although I would rather have the snakes than the mice... we lucked out and how have both. I can't tell you how much I want to take a match to our house.......See MoreO.T.--but would really like suggestions
Comments (12)Truthfully, I have the same issue. I have silicone caulk in the 'change of plane' area between the wall and the shower base and I have to redo it every year or two. Is IS a colossal pain! I had asked about it on the bathroom forum and there were those who insisted that if I had silicone caulk there was no way that mildew (or mold) could form. Well come and visit...there's always some to look at. I had my bathroom redone about 8 years ago and I think I'm up to the 4th time to replace the caulk. Yes, you can replace just the missing sections of grout. I like to scrape out a little bit more around the area, mix up my grout and then add the rest needed. Helene...See Morekqcrna
