Sowed Too Many Wildflower Seeds

Kluttery

Last month I sowed Pennington's "Butterfly and Hummingbird" wildflower mixture in a small bed using four 8-ft landscape timbers (64 sq ft).

Having read several horror stories about the low germination rate and that the package (which I confirmed) said the mixture contained 80% inert matter, I said what the hell and used the whole bag, which supposedly covers 1200 sq ft.

The plants are coming up very nicely, but man is the bed thick and crowded. Should I enlarge the bed and spread the plants out, and if so, when?

Granted, some of the plants are annuals and won't return next year, but the perennials are self-sowing and will simply fill in the bare spots left by the annuals. So I'm thinking with so many plants, I'll eventually have to do some thinning eventually.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
