Leaving bulbs in the ground all year round

Barbara Richardson

Two years ago a friends gave me some of her Amaryllis plants which I stuck in the ground and left there. They are still there and doing well. I think these are your standard Amaryliss plants.

This year I went and bought some fancy Amaryllis bulbs to plant. Do I have to dig these bulbs up in fall? Can I just leave them in the ground like the others? I live in Southern California about two miles from the beach.

I would really like not having to dig them up. Does anyone else just leave their bulbs in the ground all year long?
