It's the Nastiest Euphorbia in the World

Or so it's reputed to be, with its yellow-greenish sap. I've fortunately been able to keep out of its caustic clutches.

I love all kinds of Euphorbias but I won't grow them now because my current garden is so limited in space. I don't feel like dealing with sap and spines when I have so little room to move around and the smell of Euphorbia flowers makes me kind of ill.

If you take a bus through from Russia to Estonia and then the fields are TOTALLY full of Euphorbia cyparissias. I hit it just as the flowers were starting to open so some of the fields were still blue green and the other side would gradually blown out yellow with chartreuse in-between. Fields and fields of . It is amazing to see those colors on a mass scale. Unbelievable ,Ã¢ÂÂ¦.but MONOLITHIC. It is everywhere. It must be the farmers bane. Gardeweed, You made me laugh so hard with "soil no deeper than a few feet". Try places of Half inch. 1 Foot is deep in my book.Euphorbia rigid and myrsinites will take the heat in the summer. Giardinierven, I sometimes lose some of my euphorbia characias wulfenii as well, normally during the winter though. Since they reseed like mad, I always have new babies coming up. Mine have never gotten 6 X 6 before however. The first time I ever saw this plant it was in one of the first gardening books I ever bought many years ago. It was a display in the desert and had huge specimens of it. That was when I knew I had to try and grow that variety. Weird wantonamara, as I always think of most euphorbias as being extremely drought tolerant plants, once establised anyways. Mine never get watered including the seedlings that come up and they do well here,even the past two summers where we have had extreme drought conditions and higher heat temps for extended periods of time. I haven't tried growing the varieties you mentioned however and I am sure Texas heat is much worse than what we have.

I do like the own root idea but to get so many plants so cheaply grafting is the only way to go. Own roots are better in the long run. Own root roses are far better than the grafted ones. No suckers to worry about but with all good, there is bad. Some of the wild root stock is hardier and can take more disease and bug infestations. So like life, it is a trade off.

It turns out even transparent roofs shades a lot of sunlight, Tracy. Before I installed the panels on my pergola I had to double the bug screen where I have my semi-dormant winter growers. After the roof installation I then had to remove the extra screen. Gladys' hoop house looks like it has double-wall polys so while it is bright, that's still a lot less harsh than direct sun. I should've warned you, sorry. Every time I get plants from Arid Lands I email them back to find out if they have been in a hoop house or under direct Arizona sun. Pagan

Its obvious to my keen eye-its a plant that died of mold months ago. You cant get one past me.

I couldn't agree more...Sorry, that is an ugly plant,lol...
But, I LOVE the pot its in!! I think you should give that pretty bonsai pot to a nice Jade or succulent, just a suggestion :o)

If you think so then I will pass on to you an ugly pit bull terrier. I also have some ugly plants I want to give away, my club will inherit them on Thursday night. They take anything as long as it is free or very cheap. I'm downloading many of my plants I just have too many to do it right. Norma

That ugly gray dead thing may well be the 'nastiest' because of its sap, but I think this one is nastiest by thorns. It has got thorns growing from thorns.
