A few splashes of color on a rainy day

Yesterday was drizzly, but when you walk into the shadehouse you're still greeted with pops of color.

This flower appeared almost overnight on Ae. Heather Tweed:

It's a nudicaulis hybrid, of course, but gets its foliage color from ramosa 'Festiva', which, oddly, seems to have contributed nothing to the flower.

I don't grow many Tillandsias, but a friend traded me this T. rothii and I love the way it forms a glowing ball:

Most of my Billbergias bloom towards the beginning of the year, but several of the DM hybrids have been throwing out flowers lately, including Midnight Sun:

The rain really brings out the colors on Neo. Caramac:

A fairly recent acquisition that I'm starting to fall in love with, Neo. carcharodon 'Rainbow':

I bet it'll be a real knock-out when it's full grown!

They are all wonderful..now I know what I may to look forward to on 'caramac' yummmmmmmmm..I have a billbergia coming 'royal blood' I cant wait to see it

Your pectinata looks very nice! It also looks very much like the Ae pectinate small form that I have - however, mine is not coloured up as nice as yours. Mine got a bit of slow release food some time ago. Are you growing yours hard? This is what my 'normal' pectinata looked like a year before it flowered. The colour it got then was coming and going but always more as solid patches and a realy bright cerise pink. Of course, when it flowered it went totally bezurk. gldno1 - unfortunately the tree peony blooms seem to be short lived like herbaceous peonies. This is my first tree peony, though, so I am certainly not an authority on the subject. I am looking forward to seeing the branch structure of the plant develop and to see what it looks like over the winter. trailrunner - thanks!

I'll second what Mantis said about rain. We have been watering constantly for the last couple of days, but it is hard to get around to all the beds. Rain or no, you have beautiful pictures of beautiful flowers. I really like Euphoric and Spacecoast Ojo Rojo.

Great looking plants. I like the dark red on the Ae. What is the Bill. in the background of the second photo? The green one with pink tips. It has a really cool form.

'Rainbow' looks great, right up my alley. I have an unknown 'Tiger' look-a-like that I picked up locally. I'll have to start a thread to see what you guys think it might be.

Love those photos Lisa...! Neo Rainbow, hmmm...another one for the wish list.

Neo Caramac...is that one of your hybrids...? I wish we could get our Neo's to form that multi layered rosette, what are the parents....?

And, one more question, sitting in the background of the Billbergia photo, is that a form of Neo cruenta with the vase shape, & red tips..?

Lisa, I always look forward to your posting of photos on this forum. Once again you have not disappointed.

I just luv all the red ones. Must be my favourite colour in broms. That Rainbow is not too shabby as well.

Any more of your photos can't come soon enough.

HDD, Bill. Royal Blood is a cool little plant, deep glossy red with short stolons, and it multiplies fairly quickly. This isn't the greatest picture, but it's the only one I have:

If you want Neo. Caramac to form a nice tight rosette with a golden-tan color and strong red markings, don't overfertilize it. Otherwise it will get humongous and look like this:

Still looks pretty good though. It's naturally glossy, so that helps. It's a cross of Princess Di and johannis 'French Form' (AKA French's cruenta).

I think the plant that a couple of you are asking about is Hoh. castellanosii. I posted this pic of it when I first got it:

It's faded a bit since then, but still catches the eye. I should probably put it back out in the full sun.

Max, yours is very pretty too and you are right, I don't think any plant collector is ever "finished".

So it's occurring to me that 'caramac' is an unregistered hybrid by Lisa??? So when does Michael get his hands on one?

Lisa this is the most intriguing color I have seen on any bromelaid in a long time. I'm very pleased with it and I'm not a Bill fan at all..just no words to describe the color..photo's don't do this beauty justice :):)

Lisa, do you have a picture perhaps of johannis French Form (French's cruenta)? I have seen the name so many times used in crosses but could never see what the plant looks like! Japie

Japie, my French Form is just a big messy clump, but I'll see if I can get a picture that shows anything. It really doesn't look much like a johannis to me, more like a glossy wide-leaved spectabilis.

I'm not convinced that this is not some kind of natural hybrid with spectabilis, just based on the bronzey tone and red fingernails. I mentioned that to Harry Luther and he kind of shrugged and said "It's possible". I don't know if he was just humoring me or what, but for now it's considered a johannis.
