The "nicer" ones that were $10 were marked down to $7 yesterday, so I picked up a 'Flamingo Star' just for giggles! At half price, the ones that were $5 would make a nice gift planted right in a dollar clay pot. Thanks for the heads up, tdcamp!

I'm headed to a holiday party right now too, but I might be made fun of (alot) if I brought any kind of plant. :-( oh well...more for me!!!

Well Dang...they aren't half-price here. I went to 2 WalMarts today and bulbs are still priced at their original $5!

The bulbs that were priced at $10 previously were marked down to $6.00. I bought 4 - 1 Grand Cru, 2 Pink Diamond and 1 Flamingo Star. The bulbs that were priced at $5 previously (AB, RL & M - the big three) were NOT on sale. So...I didn't buy. East Orlando - Super Walmart.

Haven't spotted any Hipps at Home Depot or Lowes this year.

Our $10 ones were down to $7 since most were bolting up from their tins. I did notice the coir the bulbs were resting on wasn't wrapped in plastic...progress guys! This was only at the one Super-Walmart I visited. Unfortunately or fortunately (however you wish to look at it), there are about 15 (yes 15!) Wal-Mart stores within 30 minutes of where I live, so getting to see what each of them has could take days...haha! Normally, its all the same though.

We only have one Superstore in the area, but I haven't had a chance to get there... it's quite a drive from where I'm at... one of the pitfalls of living out in the boonies!

Ten dollar tins are now $6 here,in the Zephyrhills store, with $5 still 5.I believe that their computers must show them what to price things at,with the store manager having some discretion to mark things lower. Until the theives ruined it for everyone else,they kept marking things down until it sold.Now,rather than taking a chance that someone will return the item for more than they purchased it for,they will destroy it when it drops below a certain price;probably around wholesale.Apparently prices vary acording to economic levels of the area,also. You are exactly right. Walmart's computers do tell them exactly what is selling, almost in real time. I watched what seemed to be a 2-hour show last night re: the history of Walmart. Part of the show was filmed in Walmart's computer center and the Walmart spokesperson stated the lag between the time of sale of every item and the time when their computer inventory is updated is about 15 minutes.

Wow... talk about technological! I suppose you'd have to be to keep up with such a huge corporate retail operation... the shame is, not much they sell is made in America by Americans.

Everything that's sold Wal-Mart is tracked by the home office. There are some markdowns that every store receives. Almost every month each store get a certain amount of in-store markdown money. The store manager decides how this money is best spent. If there's holiday coming up that department almost always gets the money. The Assistant Manager over that department then decides which items they will mark down, usually based on sales.

Almost a decade in management for Wal-Mart before I got enough sense to get away. I finally found something I love, teaching!!! I can almost pinpoint exactly to the day what will be marked down. That's when I go shopping.

So tdcamp will post when headed shopping so the rest of us can go too!

Tdcamp,I like teachers loving the job.I suffered under some teachers resenting having to be a teacher.I greatly admire teachers.And to everyone else:as the economy worsens and raises aren't given, teachers are reaching even deeper into their own pockets,to supply children with what they actually need to learn with.I began by giving reams of copy paper, cash,pencils,etc to the teachers of my children.now I help my grandchildrens teachers.I don't have a lot to give,but what I give has never been unappreciated.Teachers growing Hippeastrum at school,Isn't that great. I have a deep appreciation for the teachers who helped us through the rough financial patches when our kids were young. Without those wonderful and giving people, I'm not sure how my kids might have fared. Because of certain teachers, my kids always had lunch, always had supplies, and were always included in things that I couldn't pay for... like certain field trips, for instance.
