Well, I started my WS ...

It is reasonably cold and I am refusing to call it fall sowing ;)

as far as I am concerned I began my WS cycle of year 2008. Those seeds need cold at least for 3 months and ideal for outside overwinter

trichophorum alpinum

decaisnea fargesii

eriophorum virginicum

scirpus cyperinus

scirpus atrovirens

which I got from Gardens North

Also started my own aconitums seeds, from previously WS plants as well- cycle is repeating itself...

I still have plenty of pots going into second year overwintering with hope to germinate.

Did my indoor set up and started primulas- danova series, crescendo mix and double primrose from Swallowtail perennial seeds. Last year I did obconica primulas- German primrose- and they bloomed in the spring and now blooming their heads off second time.

Will start pansies and columbines Winky series/ good for containers/ shortly.

I know that every spring I develop this fever to have few early blooming plants and this past spring I only had to go to my stand to choose from- felt very good about it too...

Oh, yeah and started few calceolaria biflora- pocketbook flower- want them to bloom by Valentine Day, will make good presents too.

Anyone to share what are you planting now?

I haven't started anything yet, but calceolaria is on my list for 2008. Did you start that one inside??

I am amazed that you are planting already - I am still saving seeds. One thing though - is this Winter Sowing 2008 or 2007?

wow, poppies already? that is quick. Our ground here is ust soaked. Anything I direct sow would have plenty of water :) I guess I should direct sow some things for fun. I just love thyme and it is so expensive pre-grown the last 6 pack I bought of plants was $10. It was one of those large ones but still too much $$. I think I saved a bundle just on CT seeds instead of plants. I plan to add a patio with CT in the cracks. We already have it between stepping stones but it is wolly thyme. I think the cheapseeds is mother of thyme since the flowers are pink. Karen

I wintersowed today too. And this is my first ws. So I'm excited! Nancy, I tore my meniscus some 7 years ago and it was a while before I got to see the knee specialist. I believed I was mismanaged by my regular doctor then or rather his staff at the time. While they did immediately sent my file to the knee surgeon, either they didn't do much follow up or the doctor didn't emphasize enough the state of my knee. It took a rehab doctor to tell me I needed an operation and so with that information I went right back to my doctor and demanded they follow up with the knee surgeon. At that point they gave me the phone no to that clinic and when I made the phone and explained my state, I was seen immediately and they wanted to operate the following weekend. Talk about mismanagement and the further damages it caused my knee. 50 percent of my meniscus is gone. I cannot do any sports anymore as a result.

Procrastination here too. I've already started some plants (tomato, impatiens, petunias) but still have to start cosmos, marigolds, etc that need a shorter time indoors. I hope by the time they are up it's nicer weather outside, I really like being able to put them outside during the day (in one of those mini greenhouses or just out on the deck) and back in at night. But then again, the past two Aprils were much warmer than this one is turning out to be. Glen

I have had Wild leek (allium tricoccum), Michigan Lily (lilium michiganense), and Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum something-or-other) outside for a while now cause they like warm-cold-warm. I also did some Wild Ginger (Asarum canadense) and some Doll's Eyes (Actaea Pachypoda) and Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadense), but I cheated on those and started them in the fridge/indoors because they want cold-warm-cold and I'm impatient.

I'm going to direct sow my bachelors buttons, poppies, and sweet alyssum soon too.

Like northerner, I'm still trying to collect seeds. Spent last night cleaning rudbeckia seeds.

I'm also still doing fall clean up and mulching all my beds with leaves. I'm adding large amounts to stuff to my compost daily, getting it ready to sleep for a couple of months. I have 5 big construction bags of leaves to shred and mulch my beds. I need lots more, which I'll try to get on Tuesday, the day before garbage collection, and hopefully many more to be delivered by neighbors.

Haven't even thought about Christmas yet. Haven't bought or done a thing.

No, we'll be well into January before I can think about winter sowing.

I am growing calceolaria biflora or annua- have to come to terms of latin name yet-pouch or pocketbook flower- mostly it is houseplant also it could be used as annual outside

because this plant has such vibrant startling colors it is very appropriate for Valentine Day gifts IMO

I'm counting the days and I've started collecting milk jugs, stock piling potting soil, duct tape and of course seeds...does that count as starting winter sowing already? ;)
