I remember seeing a picture on Mr. Subjunctive's blog with a Schlumbergera stem that had a lot of flower buds on it because apparently it had been treated with a lot of... whatever hormone makes plants flower. I wonder if that's what causes the monstrose stem in crested? Also not usually a fan of crests, but there are a few monstrose things I like. I could imagine a monstrose CC being pretty striking, in all honesty, if such a thing could ever happen. Anyway, I just remembered a weird observation. When I see CCs/TCs/whatever in stores, I notice that there seems to be some interesting variation in stem thickness. Some of have really thin, almost papery feeling stem segments, which are really floppy and very leaf-like. On the other hand, the one I just bought has rather thick and waxy stem segments. I wonder what the different genetic makeup between the two is, or if it's just a matter of age or culture or something..? (Also where DO jungle cacti fit in in the whole cactus family? I mean they're not opuntioids, even though they kind of resemble them in terms of having heavily segmented stems in a lot of cases, as well as lacking ribs or tubercles like you see in desert cacti, which they are apparently more closely related to? Also there's that whole thing S. opuntioides existing. Plants sure are weird!)

From asking questions on another forum this is the info that I have collected. The 1989-1990 Rainbow Gardens catalog lists the following: Zygophyllanthus mini-belle - The flowers are light fuchsia and exactly like those of Christmas cacti. The plants are roughly the same as Christmas cacti, but the segments are rounded and ribbed. Most interesting. from a poster "I absolutely think it is a form of exotica. The Rainbow Gardens Catalog also lists Schlumbergera crested form which I believe to be a variety of Enigma. They don't share pictures." Minibelle is listed in the directory as Orig.: USA, Parentage: S. truncata x S. opuntioides, Flower colour, light fuchsia, flowers like S. x buckleyi, stem segments are rounded and ribbed, Comments: cultivar selected from this cross. Exotica has the same parentage of truncata x opuntioides.

ALEXBYRNE44.... IF you see this, that is the 'Christmas cactus I am searching for SO badly. Can you tell me where you got it? I know its a year ago, Maybe it is a store that is in Ft.laud, where I am,and i can look to see if they still sell it, this year. OR do you or someone else have any cuttings of it Schlumbergera X Buckleyi that is the one. I have a post on the Cactus forum looking for cuttings of this cactus, Mine was well over 150yo, and it died it went through so many generations, and Fla. heat must have been to much for it, after being in Conn. all its life. It died slowly over decades, then I got cuttings/segments of it from some other lucky owners of it, 4-5 years ago, but they have died on me this past summer, after Hurricane Irma came through. It finally gave up 2 weeks ago:( Just in time for X-Mas. The extra hot summer we had must have been to much for it, then the hurricane took the rest of its 'strength I guess. If you or someone sees this, maybe you can help me out???
