Post-BigBoxStore Rescue Protocol

Hello, forum denizens. Delurking for a bit to request assistance.

I have been circling the idea of getting aeonium plants for months, holding out until I've learned enough about how to not kill them indoors. But my hand was forced when I saw two pots in one of the big stores. Naturally, I had to get them---a Caitlin hybrid and something labeled "assorted rounds", as if that meant anything. I would usually repot any plant that I get from these places, to remove them from pots that seem designed to keep them alive while on the store shelf, then promptly pass out and die as soon as they are bought.

But I have read conflicting information about how to pot them up---ultrafast-draining vs regular soil. I even read somewhere they are better planted on vertical walls with little or no soil, in a mineral-poor medium.

I am also unsure whether these plants are the kind that would grow stems or just expand flat and close to the ground. I plan to grow them indoors, however, in a large-ish hypertufa container.

Right now, I am just letting them get used to the new environment.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
