I was surprised to see a few here too. Poor things are just hopping around on the snow. They can't get to the ground to get any worms. I wonder what they are eating????

We have had robins and bluebirds for about 3 weeks, they arrived ahead of our last snow. I did see a couple of goldfinches yesterday, totally took me by surprise! We don't usually start seeing colour on the finches for a couple of months yet!

All of the birds seem to be acting as wacky as the weather!

Have a great day everyone! We are expecting some pleasant 60's today, can't wait to get outside!

Margaret, that must have warmed your heart! I love seeing birds, but of course we only get the usual sparrows, pigeons (ugh) and crows (another ugh). Hope the robins don't freeze or starve :-(

Robins will strip a holly clean of its berries if it can't get to the soil. Don't worry, they'll be fine.

That makes me feel better. I thought they were strictly insect eaters. There's plenty of berries and seeds in the yard.

Thanks Tom, that also makes me feel better about the robbins.

I saw my first Robin here last Wed. and yes the ground is covered with snow.

But, like token said, they will strip a Holly clean. I have a very large American Holly in my yard, it is aproximately 45 feet tall. Every year the Robins and the Cedar Waxwings feast on its berries.

Robins will also eat Sumac, Bittersweet, Bayberry, Snowberry, Mountain Ash, Crab Apple, Dogwood, Hackberry, Hawthorn, Red Cedar, Choke Cherry and Greenbriar.

The Northern Mockingbirds are already feeding from the Holly. Hope there is enough berries to fed everybody until Spring really arrives.

Would you believe robins winter through in Colorado. I saw some goldfinches at my thistle feeder a month ago, and there was a hint of yellow peeking out of one of their feathers. I'm in Plano, TX (Dallas area) right now and the cardinals are flocking like crazy. We don't have them in CO and I'm thrilled to see them. There were a few grackles on the ground stuck together mating, too LOL!

Many robins stay here all winter...as long as there is a good supply of holly berries. I have planted a lot of hollies over the last several years, so we should be seeing more and more robins each winter.
