I submitted one of my photos to Botanical Interests. It was a snapshot of the Gaura lindheimeri/wandflower I grew from seed via winter sowing this year. They're using it on their website. How cool is that?

I emailed to thank them for letting me know. Couldn't help myself--I pointed out that with all the great information they print on their seed packs, they don't mention winter sowing.

LOL **big grinn** ya and finger nail clippers work good too, LOL to take a really quick clipping, but that was all befor i just went up and knocked on the door and said may i have a clipping of your beautiful plant?? its just so pretty!! of course tabor and hubs go "ohhhhhh GOD" and get so embarrased but i tell ya, you make friends and get to talking about plants and next thing ya know, your like, come over sometime and i'll let you have some of mine, geeze i have TONS of little ones you'll make my hubs happy to get rid of some!! LOL and BOOM you made a new sord of friend. LOL me being the giver i give away tons of plantlings. LOL you wouldnt know it by my back yard though!!! LOL i want crepe myrtle soooo bad!! they smell so good in the spring!! and hydrangea!! oh heck i want the west coast!! its so beautiful!! LOL ** sheepish grinn** LOL also..... you can get seeds from your dried fruit, like the gojio or somthing like that, it doesn't fry them, a guy sent me some, and lo and behold i had tons of seedlings, i don't recommend doing them in the winter!! LOL unless its outside!! LOL ~Medo

But you do have a point when talking about "unfinished" areas. A house with 2500 sq ft with increased or decreased square footage in the porches will change that number. Same thing with the garage space--a 2 car will cost less than a 3 car. That $100 sq ft is just a ballpark figure. Depending on your location, this can change as well. Irish, thanks for posting the pics. Admission I was in a hurry and know you had to take the time to copy, paste, post to do this. Hadn't thought about the size of TV they are using. Plus the easel has to be straight instead of on an angle. I work in pastels and the easel has to be straight on. Reinforcing would be easy, but definitely necessary. My guess is those are 47" TVs by comparing the easel I have and rooms they are shown in. Mine is also 8' tall, but this could be cut down about a foot above the TV if wood. You would have about 6' to deal with. Yup, like the last one too. Cubbies are always added delights. Old or new...a great idea. Sign up for Hobby Lobby and get a 40% discount coupon or Dick Blick has a huge sale right now. Both carry a big selection. My 8' was around $75 on sale a couple of years ago. I don't think they have gone up much from then. Have never thought of what materials these are made from other than wood. I did find the same one as Restoration Hardware for $500 on another site. The specs say supporting up to a 66" TV. This easel also has a TV bracket attached to it. Which is a good idea and worth an extra $100 considering buying this separate. Also, this easel is most likely built specifically to handle the weight and balance. Run an image search for H Easels, they go on forever. I still like the idea of an old one to convert. This has been fun...thanks for the idea and posting.

How wonderful for you to have your photo to be chosen.

The closest I came to anything like that was to have photos taken during the year my garden was on the local garden walk to be used on the next year's posters that were displayed around town. Oh, and a lady who took pictures of my flowers which she turned into cards for sale at one of the book stores in town. She gave me sets of the cards which I gave as gifts to friends. That's it!

Pretty picture Gardenweed. It's nice that they use pictures that are submitted to them and they credit the photographer. I've read threads on GW about people's pictures being used by online nurseries without their permission.

I winter-sowed Guara lindhiermi in 2009, it bloomed a little the first year, this year it bloomed all summer and early fall. It is floppy though - I sheared mine back twice in late Spring and early summer, which delays the bloom but mad it somewhat less floppy. Very pretty mixed amongst other perennials and the bees love it!

A lot of people say this plant doesn't overwinter for them - 2 of mine did okay I think because they are in sandy soil and on a mild slope. It needs good drainage over the winter.

Thanks everyone. I love taking close-ups because my flowerbeds are too new to look anything but sparse plus I'm fascinated with the intricate & unique designs of each flower I grow.

countrycarolyn - gaura does flop but I don't care because it does so with such grace. The thin stems sway with the slightest breeze too. I put a stake in the middle and tie string loosely about 10" from the ground to keep them slightly "bundled." There are still a few holdout blooms at the stem tips too which makes them worth growing. I'll grow them as annuals if they don't come back next year but I think the WS plants have a better shot than the hothouse nursery-grown plants.

trudi - I have a basic Nikon point & shoot digital camera. It's not fancy but it takes amazing photos. I only discovered the macro setting in August of this year. It's really pitiful how technology-challenged I am!

It is a nice plant. Oddly, one of mine decided to bloom later than the others and is still in bloom. I had seeds to share last year but missed them this year.
