just stop ... everything ... water when it NEEDS WATER ... its going on fall ... its probably going dormant ... but i dont know where you are ... next time.. do not amend the planting hole ... see link for planting and watering guide ... did you apply the goo according to the label??? not many of us.. favor planting in august.... there had to be great stresses related to that.. and probably why the mites attacked ... [just because you buy a plant.. doesnt mean its the best time to plant it] i am surprised.. that.. what was presumably 'clean' stock purchased in august.. should need hardcore miticides within 4 weeks ... fertilizer NEVER solves transplant shock ... you are probably on the verge of loving this thing to death.. do no more.. including water.. until your finger.. inserted 3 inches.. indicates the plant needs water at depth ... otherwise.. you will drown it.. and rot the roots off ... it would be nice to know where you are ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

I grew mine from mixed seeds I got in trade so I can't vouch for the varieties on most of the ones I have growing but they all kept their leaves right through this strange winter. The leaves on a couple of them also look fresh and green. I normally cut them all back to about 10 inches sometime in March because they bloom on new wood. I may not wait that long depending on what the weather does the next few weeks. Christie - if your smaller plant is a typical buddleia, it may not bloom if there's no new wood based on what I've read about them.

Thanks for all the answers everyone. I got looking more on the internet and from what your saying & what I read there I'm pretty sure that I'm looking at root rot. Glorynews I didn't find anything saying what if anything you can do about it I'm assuming the plant is a goner. Does anyone know if root rot will kill the entire plant or will it just go away if everything dries out? Luckily I already have a replacement growing. I got it when I covered one of the branches on another plant and it grew roots! I didn't even realize it had happened until I went to cut the branch off so I dug the little guy up put it in a pot and it seems to be doing well. Talk about hardy plants I have another one right now that I'm going to have to get rid of because of where it's growing and when I went to dig it up I found out that I couldn't because the plant is actually growing out of one of the cracks in my retaining wall! Meadow- Have you posted at the daylily forum or just been lurking? We love to enable new people to daylily growing. Why don't you go over and do a post introducing yourself? There have been quite afew newer people who have started posting and now are regulars on the daylily forum. Just my thought but I think you would have much better luck with any trades if you were someone that we all "know" from being a regular on the forum. Were on Long Island are you? I am in Nassau County on the North Shore. I hope you do know that you can't plant your newly acquired daylilies near your ditch lilies as those will take over and you would soon have nothing left but ditch lilies.
