FCBS (Florida Council of Bromeliad Societies) Bromeliad Extravaganza happens every year hosted by the different Bromeliad Societies in FL. This year it is hosted by the Bromeliad Society of Broward County. Most of them are just a plant sale and rare plant auction with a Banquet in the PM. If you go, go early when the doors open for the best plants and deals (they go fast). If you never been to a rare plant auction itÂs a must go, itÂs a lot of fun and you win a bid as well.

Like mike I'll be there too, except I'm 20 minutes away. I'm far from being a celeb, still a newbie.

Cairns is out, I would have to stay for a month or more, so I could see EVERYTHING! Unfortunately it just wouldn't work, and I'd probably not want to come home.

Same for me Bambi...when I found out I cant even set foot outside the first airport while waiting for the connecting flight to cairns I said not for me...I wanna explore!!!

Yeah, it was a Bromeliad Auction last year hosted by the Bromeliad Society of Broward County that was my friggin downfall into collecting more plants!!!!⺠All right so maybe I can blame Hurricane Wilma for destroying everything.

Cairns is a little far for me, but Mike is 15 minutes, Mario is 20 minutes, so I'll be 17 minutes away! Now pardon me, while I contact the loan officer again!

Hey Ya'll - the Extravaganza is going to be quite something. Our keynote speaker is internationally renowned Chester Skotak. He is a leading hydridizer and was the first to produce varieagated plants from seed. He will be at the banquet and the cocktail reception the night before.
There is also going to be an ongoing raffle through out the day. Colleen

Colleen, you say the banquet is the night before? You might clarify that on the website. The only date given is Saturday the 29th, so it sounds like the banquet is at the end of that day.

I've been to Colleen's place and she definitely has some nice stuff. I think I posted pictures here somewhere . . . Her landscaping around her house is also great, so it's worth a stop if you are in the area.

I may have missed the info,but is there an itinerary,or schedule of some kind for this event? [other then what was in the BSI Journal pg.138] Like,I was not aware of the reception on Friday evening.Do we need to 'sign up' in advance for seminars,or banquet,etc ? Anything else we may need to know?

Hi Mike,
My intent is to be there,and I have my hotel res.,and will do the air res. next. The tricky part is that I'm trying to co-ordinate with some friends from the Ft.Lauderdale area that I have'nt seen for years,and their vacation plans are around the same times,but there is a good possibility it will work out. I'll know for sure in Sept.
It sure would be good to see everyone from the GW. I count 7 so far. Look'n good !

Bob - That's great news. I hope everything works out for you. If you plan on staying for a bit outside of that one weekend there are plenty of places you might like to check out if you have time. That really goes for any of you out-of-towners. Fairchild in Miami would probably top the list with Flamingo Gardens here in Davie being a more local option.

I count 8 so far. Minibim, Mike and Mario live in the area, HDD and Patris are coming from TX, Bradisha from Nassau, Bob from NY and me from HI. Actually, 9 if you count my husband, but he's not an official GWer.
