So sorry to hear of your mishap and sure hope you're doing better..no fun what you've been going through. Hopefully Fla has cooled down enought now so you can go out and enjoy the sun..and your hippies. This should be an exciting year for amaryllis, virtually every bulb I have seen for sale, whether at a box store or in a nursery or from a mail-order has been of qreat quality. All the bulbs this year seem to be large, firm and with some roots even...so aside from the usual mislabels, should be a great year...!

jstrop, I have lost so many of my crosses and seedlings. However, I am actually doing an inventory and will post some surviving crosses for us all to compare. I'll bet all of us have some really interesting mixes. None of mine have bloomed yet-still too young.

Hello, Cindeea and all. I'm also new. My name is Michelle. I first fell in love with hippeastrums when I received my first one in the late '80s from my parents around Easter. I still have it, plus a small collection of others, including some seedlings grown from seeds collected from my mature bulbs' flowers. I, too, eagerly await blooms from my seedlings (my oldest seedlings turned two years old this past summer). :-) Cindeea, I do hope this coming season is a much better one for you, and that your leg is doing better! Cindee! Its so great to hear from you! Dang it all, girl, you were supposed to have done your time with being on crutches and such! Lets hope no more of that for you! I have been doing great since my knee replacements...this year getting even better then new as I have taken up daily walks with my best buddy.

I now have a greenhouse, where the little flowering shrub you gave me is thriving at last...it barely hung on in the cool NW here until it got its own place in the sun! My amaryllis are quite happy with the new abode too. Healthiest I have ever seen them, and my seedlings finally putting on some growth. Non of mine have bloomed either but maybe before next summer?

Can't wait to see your beautiful photos again!

Donna, I love my RvanR. The flowers only last a couple days but it is one of my favs (oh who am I kidding? they are ALL my favs) I can't remember who I purchased it from. Are they hard to come by, now? the photo on EasyToGrow's site looks washed out compared to mine (below). Theirs seems to be missing the striking green throat and distinctive veining. This photo isn't even all that good-cloudy after rain.

Anna_in_quebec, I wasn't expecting any blooms from my older bulbs, either, but was surprised to discover that my "Royal Velvet" is getting ready to bloom. (The bulb was labeled Royal Velvet, but only has a tiny spot of the really dark red of Royal Velvet in the very middle of the bloom, with the rest being white.) It bloomed in the spring, so I wasn't expecting it to bloom this fall. Unfortunately, something's not quite right, though, because there's not much of a stem to this scape. But my husband says it looks like there are at least three blooms in the bud. So I'm looking forward to the appearance of these unexpected blooms. When it blooms, I hope to have my husband take a picture of it and help me post the picture. Perhaps you all can help me figure out what happened.

Yes, but I'm afraid this beauty is one of Maria's creations and we may have to wait until one of our Seductress aka Cherry Crush bloom to see if it is the same, somehow I don't think they will be. I saw a post last year by someone who got the mismarked Seductress and they weren't too pleased with the flower.I don't recall it being as beautiful as the above flower..if it had been I think I would have been ecstatic! They did post a picture, you can try and find it if you're so inclined and Eamaryllis also has a few pictures of the mismarked flower also. Actually, I think I'll go and compare the flowers right now...

Hey Josh and Maria, I compared it to Emaryllis's photos of Seductress and right down to the picotee it's a match!!! Hurray!! Now If I only got the correct mislabeled bulb last year I'll be in heaven.. Josh, yours should bloom long before mine, since mine just recently was sent down for a nap! But then again, Josh, yours is from a different batch, mine is from the older batch so who knows what you got!! I'm thinking I got the right mislabel!! Hurray!!

Yayyy! Thanks for looking that up Donna. So what would it's name be??? LOL!
I know I ordered a bunch of bulbs from ETG last season, specially their verieties that looked "new". This would definitely be their Seductress last year then which is not what they had pictured in their website. Now that picture has a new name now. And they have a Seductress look alike also. They have Joker and Alfresco in there that is named differently too. What's up with these new names???

Maria, I believe these bulbs are coming form Israel, and last year the picture didn't match the name (Seductess) I didn't, since mine didn't bloom, but I'm sure many people complained, and this year they got the same bulb (hopefully for Josh) and changed the name to Cherry Crush, and the picture of last year's Seductress was changed to Beauty Bells, (are you confused yet).

As for Joker, unfortunately my Joker is a Joke, about the size of a golf ball and has never bloomed. I bought a Siren (Joker look-alike) and it bloomed normally with good sized flowers and average stems size It was a beauty!(I didn't measure) I was under the impression that Joker was sort of a miniature (might be wrong) and Siren wasn't a miniature, in fact the bulb this year is the size of a softball or larger.But since I'm not really familiar with the size of Joker's blooms, maybe it was Joker aka Siren! As for Alfresco, I don't know...I'll have to go take a look...

I am very pleased that it appears that I have the same bulb as your posted picture, Josh may have who knows what?

By the way, I am up to my elbows in sprouting Clivia seeds...

You young ones continue to "carry the torch".
Just remember....
A collection of several but healthy bulbs is more valuable than a collection of hundreds but sickly ones. Its better to burn a few now than burn everything later. Know your bulbs, know your sources, know what you want to keep.

Hi Jan, thanks sweetie. It is such a shame we live so close and find it hard to get together. We must grab Barb and try again before the Holidays hit! That is a beautiful Pink bloom, Jan! Do you have any blooming now? None of mine have started yet. But then the painting and pergola reconstruction has set me back. My circle bed should be FULL this year. Can't wait. I picked up some small containers and a new set of paint bruches so we will have to share pollens this year, too.
