Little Black Bugs on my Jade Plants

I have googled and searched here but had no luck identifying these tiny bugs. The plants were outdoors until it started getting rainy this winter, then when brought indoors they began to flower. Along w/ the flowers came these bugs. They don't seem to be eating anything as far as i can tell, and they are only present near the flowers on all flowering stems. I am kind of concerned . . do I need to be? Thanks for any suggestions.

Since they are only associated with the flowers, they are most likely aphids.

Try insecticidal soap, or any other soap (not detergent) mixed with water as a first line of treatment. If that doesn't do it, a sparing amount of a topical insecticide should get rid of 'em.

I had these this year as well. It looked like tiny black coffee grounds covering my lilies. It turned out they were black aphids. I purchased live lady bugs and they ate them up. Good luck!

I know most of you have protected cuttings indoors this time of the year but here in Ca. mine are growing outdoors. Everything's going on schedule but the cuttings under stress I've noticed lots of bugs in the dirt. Also I'ld like to hear what everyone uses for Aphids. I splurged and bought ladybugs which hung around for a few days and were gone and I still have a bit of a problem. I used the Bayer in the soil but that isn't doing all that good and now some white little bits are also on the new buds and I'm hoping they're not eggs. I have an impressive amount of blooms this year and I would like to keep it that way because the leaves look so healthy. debbysunshine@hotmail.com

Insecticidal soap or oil will kill aphids. If there are a lot of immature aphids feeding, the water spray needs to be pretty strong. Spraying soap or oil is more gentle.
