New landscaping project complete...for now.
Comments (6)Thanks all. Gary: Gardening is my only form of exercise so I like to go balls out. Most of my perennials are fully hardy with the exception of things like EE's, purple heart, etc... The palms have been planted en masse with ease of protecting in mind. We'll see how everything does this winter. Jim: It wasn't so bad digging it out. All said and done, it probably took 3 weeks of an hour or two per day. Hopefully that nice fat needle will sail through the winter with minimal protection. I haven't decided on how to protect the yuccas yet. With the amount of snow we get, I think I'm in for some trouble. Hopefully all the snow will help with the palms though....See MoreNo flowers on my Torch Cactus Hybrid?
Comments (14)If it's leaning... it maaaay be that it receives light from one side more than the other. I don't think it will grow straight if light comes from one direction. Turning the plant every week or so 1/4 turn might help. I'm with notolover, you need bright bright light, if not sunlight, to induce flowers as well as winter rest. It will benefit so much more if outside, at least for Spring and summer I have mine outdoors under a tree and the ones at the edge bloomed nicely, the one tricho in back did not. It's still receives light, but, there wasn't enough through the canopy so no buds this Spring. Another possible cause of skinny fat growth is uneven watering. I notice this on mine when I don't change the watering schedule, while the weather warms up. It's growing well, (pups look cute!) so, it looks like you are careful with watering , although, it's not in an ideal mix. Standing water at the foot or waterlogged soil will kill your roots. Water only when dry, but, eventually you'll want to repot into an open well draining mix with a higher ratio of inorganic material like pumice, gravel and or medium to large perlite....See MoreCactus ID please ☺️
Comments (13)No, they all like drainage - it's just that they're being sold by companies which either don't know or don't care if the plant dies before its time. I'm not a conspiracy theorist generally, but this gets me to thinking... But back to the drainage - they all like it, and you can achieve it in a number of different ways, but it's important to learn about your plants and what you have (as you're doing here). Many cacti are from deserts and arid lands, it's true, but many are not - some even from rainforests, and consequently the amount of water some genera of cacti want differs vastly from what others want....See MoreApril 2016 blooms
Comments (51)Well these aren't as exciting as I expected! Or maybe they aren't blooming true? I thought the flowers were going to be a little larger. Crassula perforata - But a close look (which is hard for me to photograph) shows a cute little flower....See Morenotolover
