My goodness. I've helped some people that needed help, but I never asked for anything in return. Quid pro quo can elevate people if it's done in front of the right eyes, but I'm more subtle than that. At the end of my days I will be judged by my maker and I am content with that.

Today I packed two large padded mailers loaded with vegetable seeds--I had to do a little research first to see what would be appropriate because these seeds are going to a children's garden at a church school in Hawaii. They don't have a temperate climate in Hawaii--they can't Winter Sow and they have no interest in that. But these are children who are learning about the soil, composting, growing flowers and veggies, and saving seeds--they are learning the life skill of caring for and maintaining a garden.

I get to share seeds through SASEs with individuals, but the majority of seeds I share go to people who will never know who I am, and that's how it is and how it should be.

Trudi is famous. We all know her. :) I couldn't have done it without her and wintersowing.

The pictures of the daisies and hibiscus is now my desktop photo ;-)

I love that combination too. I used that idea in several places around the garden, but that was the only one that looked good the entire month of June. Either the shastas bloomed too late or not at all, the hibiscus got eaten by June bugs, or the rudbeckia just didn't come out yellow...the three other spots I planted like that failed to work out well. I'm glad that one was by the road. I got to see it every day when I left for work and when I came home. I'm glad you like it.

Trudi is famous in my eyes! I only have 1 year of Winter Sowing down and I am hooked and share my enthusiasiam with everyone who will lend me their ear (and some who won't, but have no choice, lol) Trudi's ears must ring constantly!

I love the frugality of WSing. No way could I have afforded all the plants I had this year. I received so many comments and the neighbors regularly locked up their brakes as they drove by. A little boy purposely made his family ride bikes by so he could tell me how beautiful the flowers were - imagine my shock.

I'm also torn at the simplicity of it all. My growing under lights plants seemed like such a bother after I saw early successes with the pot ghetto!!

Can't make a decent turkey burger, Trudi. Last year when we had company I mistakenly drizzled dishwashing soap in one of the salad bowls. I made sure that bowl was the one at my seat and ate it all without flinching so husband would never know. He's quite fanatical about cooking--and he had done everything but the salad that night! I should probably be famous for that.

And, I hope to be famous for learning from Trudi. Maybe in the next couple of years I'll swamp the forum with pictures! Yea! Maybe next time I'll be drizzling dishwashing soap on my own lettuce from my garden. Surely it will taste better that way, right?

Oh gosh...I can't tell you how many times I've made coffee and could make out a hint of palmolive in the brew. Plehhh.

Home grown lettuce is awesome stuff. This spring I grew "Farmer;s Market Blend" from Renee's Garden seeds and just loved it. Nice nice NICE!

I will be FOREVER grateful to Trudi - she truly has been an inspiration for all of us who never grew from seed.

I was directed to this forum five years ago by trowelgal when she found me on "Growing from Seed"... I've never gone back.

This is the best forum, thanks to Trudi and all the wonderful and funny people here...

I agree- Trudi is famous- at least around the web she is! I tried wintersowing for the very first time this year and it worked fabulously. Next year, I will have VERY few plants growing under the lights and plan to start almost everything outside in my 2 liter bottles and gallon milk jugs. I can't say how thankful I am for her and her website.

I even told my Mom (who can kill just about any plant) about it and she's trying it next year too.

It does, thank you. That recipe is very tweakable. The loaf I made this week had minced mushrooms in it. Yumyum.

I've been wintersowing for about 7 years now, and it's become a way of life. I plan vacations around bed preparation and planting-out season. I've been through a divorce, multiple job changes, new puppies, kids getting older, relocation, etc. But the gardening is a constant and wintersowing makes it year-round, inexpensive, and just plain fun. And the people who gravitate to this site are treasures of generosity with their advice, their humor, and (of course) their seeds. Thanks to all.
