I know Autumn Joy produces lots of nectar, and it sounds like it may be similiar.

The S. spectabilis produce large flower clusters that attract all types of wildlife activity. I have seen various types of predators that notice all the bee, butterfly, and wasp traffic on the large nectar producing landing pads, they will lay in waiting and ambush the unsuspecting pollinators.

I'm sure it is a great nectar plant and should be on the list in the FYI section. I've never planted it myself, but there used to be a poster on this forum from upstate New York who said it was a big butterfly attractor there.
I'd plant if for my 5-year old daughter if I were you.

I found that buckeyes loved the sedum. I definitely remember them on "Autumn Joy", but I don't remember whether "Autumn Fire" worked as well.

My sedum spectabilis attracts lots of butterflies in fall, and it is supposed to be a host plant for something, I don't recall.

If you have Buckeye butterflies there, they will LOVE your Autumn Fire. I often see a dozen or more at a time on both my Autumn Joy and Autumn Fire which are very similar. I also see lots of teeny butterflies (don't know their name) and I think I've seen Painted Ladies on my sedum too.

Your member page doesn't say what state you live in but if you need drought tolerant plants you'll love it. They're easy to grow and easy to root and look good all through the summer and fall. The foliage looks nice before and after they bloom. You will probably need to pinch them back in the spring after they mature to keep them from getting floppy. If you leave the dried flower heads on, they'll give you some winter interest too.

The drawbacks are, they don't attract swallowtails or monarchs and they don't bloom for an extremely long time or at least they don't have nectar for an extremely long time. They also attract wasps but those are somewhat fun to watch too. I stand pretty close to mine and they haven't come after me yet.

I've noticed that pollinators of all kinds love the sedum flowers. My favorite (at the moment) is my Blue Spruce sedum (Sedum relexum 'Blue Spruce'), which has the greatest flowers.

Thank you so much for your replies! I am so happy to hear that they attract buckeyes, as they are one of the main butterflies that I plan on trying to attract this year.

I have plenty for the swallowtails, so it looks like this was a good buy.

And, yes, Miss Sherry you are absolutely right. This plant would have gone in the ground even if it was a terrible nectar plant. My five year old was excited about it, and it is such fun to see them excited about gardening. I hope to see some buckeyes around it this summer!
