OT: Rain Rain go away.....

Yep, we got lots of flooding here...My house is ok, the yard is covered, but the river is REALLY high and others are getting flooded out...I'm afraid to look at our crawl space...We're on the water table and I know its up there :(

I'm sure I'm gonna loose a lot of plants to rot...boohoo...But at least we knew this was coming.

Oh, my -- A rose lover tries to get some useful information from other rose folk, only to be hearing about needed rain in California and a mythological definition for rain. Aren't there any other websites where you folks might "bless" others with your non-sequitarian comments? My heart does go out to the Californians along with a financial contribution of support for those in need. And certainly, mythology is quite fascinating. Everything has its place. Perhaps, there is a weather web or a mythology web where you can chat with others who are interested. All that I really wanted to know was about roses that still bloom in rain for future reference. Anyone else out there who might offer some useful info? CJ

I am happy for the rain! I have added some plants to my yard though. Several Rhodedendron's 2 wild ones, like those up in the mountains growing wild, with Large leaves, and get tree sized. They are local, but if you want to buy them, they are AT LEAST $35.00. If you try and dig one up in fall, they are free, but you get a small tree, with small root system, that is TINY for -ever! Or you fork over the $35.00 plus shipping $40.00 + for a 2 ft shrub, and be happy you got it at that size, and the price is fine once you realize you have a decent size shrub/tree for the price. I also got some cheap Rhodies at Lowes. Cheap but beautiful anyway's.

Kasem, I wish I could send you some of the rain we have experienced here. Dec was the wettest on record for us. Shabosbaby, We went down to -22c last night. We had a little bit of snow but I think we will see what you are sending our way in a few days. The snow has not slowed our pack down at all and the kitten that arrived from Florida is just in awe of the white stuff. lol He about knocked himself out on the front window trying to catch all them snowflakes. I had lots I didn't get to plant yet too. It actually didn't rain here yesterday it was a nice day but got cold last nite. It is 58 rite now. This is almost July. Potatoes look the best. Cabbage and broccoli are making okay heads I guess, but I feel they are growing so slow but that is due to late frosts and not enough sunshine. I can only get a handful of carrots to come up I'm sure the seed got washed away. Beans grow ing slow. Tomatoes growing slow. Peppers I only have one kind doing anything, that is Hungarian black they have beautiful purple flowers. Other peppers are same size as when I transplanted them. Eggplants too. I planted lots of dwarf tomatoes in strategies and they look okay. Okra are tiny not gonna do nothing. Strawberry are good but now I'm discovering I have some Asian spotted fly and I think it is in my raspberries too. My blueberries look good have unripe berries. Everything is late. Usually by now id have a ton of squash and zukes and cukes. These plants are tiny. Fingers crossed for good warm weather with normal rain fall, destructive winds, hail, and storms to stop. Anyone know a good recipe for grass cuz that's mostly all that's growing. I guess I'll cook it on my compost pile.

They're forecasting 3" of rain just tonight with winds gusting to 40mph...We gotta hang onto our hats tonight!!...I got the heat going up higher just in case we loose power...Pray we don't...My ponds about ready to go over...Gonna do a fish count in the morning.

Aaahh Caren, I sure hope the rains miss you. I'm so sorry you are experiencing such awful amounts of rain. Yes, I agree an overabundance of rain sure can take care of plants.

Caren I know I am reading this late. But I will pray that you stay safe and out of harms way with the water and flooding! All I can say is that this weather is just crazy!

Awe poor fishies. I was planting my water hawthorne a little while ago and saw my koi finally. He was hiding in the leaves in the bottom of the pond. This is the coolest plant. It blooms in the winter. I broke the dang bloom off when I was planting it though. Cant' find much info about it but its neat.
