Succulent Sprout ID please?

Hello,

I need some help ID-ing some sprouts thatpopped up in my succulents pot. For background the pot contains a small blue agave, a 10' or so cactus (a euphorbia, I think actually), and a small succulent, don't know what it is, but it has the white ribs on it, its about 3-4" tall (if this can be ID-ed as well, cool!). The sprouts are 1.2-2" tall. They look like they are coming from the white ribbed one, but one is on the opposite side of the pot/bowl. Any ideas??

Hi. I have no clue what those sprouts are, but I recently posted a pic of that white-striped succulent you have, and it was ID'd as a Haworthia Attenuata. It supposedly gets to a maximum height of 6" and a max. width of 6".

If not Haworthia attentuata, it's a Haw. fasciata.

Ohhh I see Malaysia is a bit different from me When #4 was in flowering for me Sun time here at longest is about 15.75 hours buds where easy to see and nearly ready to open and did so with lesser sun light time and finished flowering 12 days later. Temps where in the 80 - 92 F range at the same sun times mentioned and the time of day mine opened was 16:00 hours to 23:00 hours For now I can say your heaviest rain season might be a bit much for #4 although the soil you have it in does look nice enough to drain fast enough. Again odd #4 Messeb like water more than most succulents but doesn't like wet roots for to long of time in days the top will rot out on you if to wet to long. Your other plants would certainly benefit with a lot less water than #4 can handle Other than a season rain over watering concern I have think you'll do very well with yours. As caution I think it would be best if you could provide a tarp or tent for some over head covering during your heavy tropical rain season over the entire garden bed. I and others here appreciate you and want to see your plants in there best of flowering later too. In all honesty it's best to tell you to talk to some of your local people with the same succulent garden passion as yours and ask them what they do.

Chris Yes, pls. number them, take individual photos, or at least just 2-3 per photo. And try to get more of close-ups, some are very small to ID. Succulents need very similar care: fast draining potting mix, containers with drainage holes (hope all of yours have it), very good light - many will do best in good sunlight. And letting us know your general location or at least a growing zone would help. Best if added to your name.

Well that was interesting. Messy flower, same shape leaves and growth pattern. Some sites called it a Hylotelephium spectabile, the others said a Sedum spectabile as you said. Could it be a classification change do you think? Oh year, and pink flowers; -) Maybe I was away while it was blooming...

FYI: Stachys byzantina is an herb. Leaves are 'wooly', covered in fur-like hairs; stems tend to be 4-angled, and plants grow upright and tall. Your plant is a succulent, has smooth leaves and round stems.

Both Haworthia and Agave can send out 'pups', but I would guess these are from the Agave. Another possibility is that a piece of root from another succulent is in the pot, and has sent forth the pups.

Well, it seems the general consensus is that they are pups from the Agave plant, which is really what they look most like, except for the coloring. I guess what initially led me to think they may not be was their distance from the mother plant and the fact that they were coming up behind the other plans, i.e. on the far side from the mother. Meaning that the offset roots would be traveling beneath or through the roots of the Euphorbia and Haworthia.

Anyhow, thanks all. This is such a great resource!

I have an Agave americana that gets lots of pups. Once it put out a pup that I didn't know was there until I was repotting. It went all the way around the pot twice and still hadn't broken the surface of the soil. It was like a spring! I wonder if the plant goes in search of untenanted soil, and if so then it would go out beyond the other two succulents in your pot.

that doesnt surprise me at all. I had agave americana in big pots and it sent pups down through the drainholes at the bottom into the soil underneath and they surfaced a couple of feet away from the pot. those shoots can really get around
