Cosmos. Out of nowhere.

I found some dichondria silver falls,seed must have fell from the hanging basket.I have potted it up and brought it in to see if it will over-winter.

amaranthus all over - and something is eating off the tops - good because I have to pull them anyway!

Cosmos, zinnias, oxeye daisies, four o'clocks, ornamental grass - that one scares me...I fear I may really regret planting it.

Not much - but there are a lot of happy birds around!

So far I've noticed: Calendula, Zinnia, Petunia, and Pansies.

Does sprouting wild bird seed count as "reseeding"? I'm always pulling up sunflowers and millet plants.

Emilia, cosmos, salvia, verbena bonariensis, mexican hats, tomatoes. However, the tomatoes are in my flower beds, not my tomato patch. Gifts from the birds, I guess.

I actually have a lot more reseeding than amaranthus - but didn't name them - mostly those plus tons of emilias, two four oclocks, lots of salvias, few calendulas and a couple of ver bonariensis.... The emilias are so cute, aren't they?

I noticed lots of caragana arborescens growing which I dumped couple of years ago as nongerminated. I try to remove all seedheads of the plants I do not want to reseed- too much trouble. And never put them into your compost pile either...

I should also have mentioned my Amaranthus 'Intense Purple', but I guess I've been so used to seeing them popping up all season long I didn't think about it! They are completely gone crazy!

Not much but weeds that I've seen....althought an osteospermum is blooming and I can't remember if it was from the spring or last year. Looks like it spread or multiplied, have to get a closer look!

I was just out front and noticed in the hellstrip garden that cranesbill is popping up all over.

Okay T I have to ask. What is a hellstrip garden? If it is what I think it is I have one in my front yard!

Long story shortened : Bought the house 15 years ago and it had most of the front yard cemented over for use as a basketball court! Tore it all out the following spring and covered the gravel underbase with 8 inches of soil. Well the flower bed I made there has gone wild with perinnials spreading everywhere I don't want them. I plan on 'Rounduping' most of the emerging plants in the spring and starting over with more dirt and better choices of plants. The soil also drys out so fast because of the rain and water seeping into the gravel.

I'm taking it back and making it mine again even if it kills me off doing it!!!

I have larkspur and feverfew reseeding. I'm not up on the latin names of plants so I'm having to gwess at what others have coming up!

The hellstrip is a piece of land between the sidewalk and the curb. It's usually owned by the township, but the homeowner is responsible for its maintainance. When we bought this house ten years back the two maples in the strip were dying so I wrote the town and asked them to take them out. They did and ground down the stumps. It was impossible to immediately replant with grass or trees so I used the strip for wildflowers. Over the years it has morphed into a bed that still has wildflowers but also a lovely hedge of crepe myrtles which I had WSed a few years back.

Ok I lied. I found lots of baby bee balm in the front garden. I also found some calendula that sprouted in the strawberry patch. Guess they were good seeds after all. d'oh!

how could I forget the rudbeckias? and do I see poppies (don't they need a bit of cold...???) or maybe they are larkspurs... whatever it is - so cute!

and how could I forget the famous reseeder of all? Malvas all over the place!

gobs of nasturtiums ... sad to think those cute little round leaves will soon get blasted by that first frost.

Calibrochia. A reddish-yellow plant I purchased and thought had died all of a sudden started showing blooms. Nice surprise :-) Now I hope it gives me some more seeds...

I've got a bright green shag carpet of nigella seedlings. AND they are completely winter hardy, so I'm guaranteed plenty in the spring, whether I want all of them or not (they can get kind of aggressive, but they're easy to remove where they're not wanted).

I'm also getting malva 'Zebrina' seedlings now, but they are NOT winter hardy. I always have plenty of self-sown ones every spring. I winter sowed them my first year, and haven't had to do them again since then.

I have a 4" tall tomato plant in my "cover the gas meter" bed! Also have Lunaria, larkspur & lettuce popping up.

Love in a Mist, Bluebonnets, Cosmos, Zinnias, Morning Glories, Cardinal Climber, Calif. Poppies, Amaranth, Tomatoes, Lantana (in the grass, must be bird-planted)

Coreopsis tinctoria, but it has been reseeding all season. I think it might need a bed area all to itself for season long color.

What a great thread!...learning all about so many things that are great reseeders.

Hmmm...thanks for asking this question. I don't usually notice if something has reseeded this time of year. I went out and looked and saw some pansies and I was thrilled to see two baby delphinium seedlings at the base of my established one! So will these little seedlings make it through the winter?

Yay!

I am going to have to look some more..
