OT Yahoo, what a find!

Went to the nursery near my home to look for heirloom tomato seeds (prices ranged from 1.79 to 2.69 with 30% off if anyone is interested, or I could share half of each); this is what I picked up: Cherokee Purple, Speckled Roma, Italian Roma, Black Krim, Yellow Pear and Brandywine.

BUT, then I went around looking at all their plants and found this 5 gallon brug on sale for 17.97 plus tax! It's about 6' tall, and the label says it Miner's Claim!! Even if it's not, it's different than my Snowbank so I'm happy! Can anyone tell if this is indeed Miner's Claim by the leaf color?

WOW Eloise wha a find. It looks like miners claim to me because when I had mine I noticed that the leaves had that green in the variegation like in the 2nd pic. How did they get it that big??? Mine was a little seedling that died bfore it was even 6"tall, let alone 6'!

Hi PirateGirl, I use Yahoo.ca which is the Canadian cousin. My problems with yahoo has been that domains ending in Hotmail, Sympatico and Toni's (hopefulauthor) often come back as undeliverable. They did write to me to have me send all those emails to them so they can see what the problem is, but I have never heard back from them. This was a few weeks ago.... Haase it is sitting by the fireplace in the livingroom. I think it was early in the morning and still dark lol. See, even IN the house I take pictures in the dark lol Rigo that is wonderful!!! Even though I fertilized and was not done until almost noon. Was so beat that I forgot to take pictures until just a few minutes ago. LOL Poohpup, I would be on board with that. Anyone who wants to sign up to cook, let me know :) dilly_ny and doc8404 we don't belong to a church. I guess we could call the closest church to us and see if they have any leads or allow job postings... oceangirl67, no it is a Miele. Does this disqualify me from hiring help? Is no one going to want to be my housekeeper now, LOL :( beekeeperswife I found two people who do the chef service and we may still go that route and have them do dinners at least. I just thought it would be nice to have one person who did everything. May not be possible or the best route to get the best food though... linelle, LOL, I've been eating raw cookie dough, brownie batter and cake batter for 20+ years now and I am still alive. I almost always have a bowl of batter or cookie dough in my fridge. My ex used to call it my "bacteria bowl." biochem101 we don't want to eat out. It is not very healthy. We want homecooked meals w/ all organic ingredients. We just don't want to make them! We also don't really have a lot of neighbors.The number of houses in our development is restricted and there are only 4 lots built on and they are large lots on acreage so it's not like just going up and ringing the neighbor's doorbell. We did ask our one neighbor next door who we met and she does her own cleaning. Thanks for the links lazygardens. We would need someone to specifically cook for us, not just a general delivery-of-meals b/c I'm very picky about foods I like and since DF is picky about ingredients and organic. But there are two people we found who customize the menus and come to the house to cook a week, or two weeks or a month worth of food at a time. It seems like that might be a better option but that leaves me to do breakfast (and maybe lunch) every day, which I didn't really want.

Thanks guys for confirming the I.D.! They had another one but not as tall plus Shredded White (already have), insigna (sp) Pink, white and some yellow all 5-gal. marked down! I was really excited when I spotted the variegated ones. The label does give the patent # and the info that it's illegal to propagate. I'm so glad I ran out of time yesterday and couldn't go searching for seeds, because I might not have taken the time to look around as I did today.

I wish the nurseries around here would carry brugs. I've asked several nurseymen why they don't carry brugs, and if they know the plant I'm talking about I get the same answer every time "they're not hardy in our area and don't grow well" Duh, banana aren't very hardy here either but you can find them everywhere. What can you do?

You are so lucky! I lost my Miner's Claim early last year. That looks like it's correctly ID'd as the MC has a lot of chartreuse in the foliage. Ron said that he should have more this summer.

You are hitting all the good plant sales lately. That is a great find on the MC! I lost mine as well but it was a puny little thing to start with. I think I will wait till it is gonna stay good and warm here for awhile b4 trying that one again.

Wow, thats beautiful. The nurseries around here think you will die if you touch them, lol. I have started seeing a few noids though at one place but they don't take care of them and they look pitiful. I saw some at home depot last fall that looked like they had SB and they were noids selling for $35

Kristy it is the same way here. Last year I saw a pink NOID at a nursery and it $40 for just a stub of a plant but it did look healthy. I laughed and just kept on walking.

I see regular brugs and the common peaches and cream variegated ones in the H.D and ace around here. Sometimes they have NOIDs that are large and beautiful. I can't resist going over and looking at the nice ones even though I know they are noids or something I already have.

This reminded me of the other day, we were at H.D. and there was a 10ft pink noid full of flowers, nice canopy and all. So I walk over to admire it and this lady comes up and starts giving me the 411 on brugs. Telling me they were the devil's plant and such. She goes on and on... giving me lots of misinformation and is the 'know-it-all-type' so I just let her go on. (My momma raised me to be polite) I look behind her and there is dh smirking and laughing like a HYena in the corner. LOL. I was trying so hard not to laugh after that!
Had to strangle him when I got back to the car :D

I feel lucky, must have been Lucy's lucky coin :-) I wanted to bring some of the other brugs home with me, but stopped myself. I need help, LOL!

Lenette, I have never seen P&C at our HD here; all they carry are noids white and pink! Don't you just hate it when a know-it-all is so busy talking that they don't even notice the glace-look that comes over our eyes!

Lucy, can you believe this! I still have it inside in my laundry room because I haven't quite figured out where I will put it, LOL! If the nursery keeps them outside, I know I can too.

Eloise, wooooo hoooo what a bargain. I wish someone sold brugs...or unusual plants around here. We have the same old ... same old plants. I really love the color of those leaves. I might just have to purchase one of those online.

Just got home from HD, on a perlite run, and they had a few 5', or so, plants, that looked okay. Pink noids for 50 bucks!! Yeah... I'd say you got a good deal, Eloise. Extremely unusual for them to have Brugs, btw.
