Rod, I planted all the ones I got last year in containers, they've all come back, and they're making a good bit of new growth. I put plenty of chicken manure in the soil mix hoping to grow them as big as possible. I'll probably plant them out this fall or whenever their roots are big.
If y'all want some a. serpentaria (the pipevine swallowtails like it better than any other host plant) I highly recommend you buy it from Rod - his plants, his prices and the service are fantastic!

I ordered some from Rod too this winter. I did want to tell Rod that all came up and look real hardy. I am so pleased with them. Like Miss Sherry mine are planted in containers. I can only echo what she said about Rod.

I got some last year, too, but haven't seen any growth. Nothing yet of the bloodroot either. Mine are planted in the ground. Is it still too early in zone 7 to be seeing anything of either of them?

I just ordered 5 of these from Rod this week. I look forward to growing them.....I'm trying to focus more on native plants now that I understand the importance of doing so.

Regarding the bloodroot that I got from Rod last year. I panicked a bit too soon about it not appearing. It popped up yesterday and one even has a bloom.

I feel fairly certain that the Aristolochia serpentaria will show up in a few weeks.

Are you asking anything for trade, or will you be reimbursed for postage?

Rod sells his plants, Dorie, but for a very reasonable price!

Rod, my roots are in the ground, under the shade of California Sycamores.

Will be interesting to see how well they do here in Southern California. Luckily, we do get a month or so of near freezing temperatures, so I am hoping that helps instill dormancy on the plants.

I got 3 roots, and 2 of them are up all over the place, but the 3rd is being a bit slow about it. Zebz, I'm surprised you're not getting any growth yet. Have you looked really closely at the ground - sometimes it's hard to see them when they first poke their little stems out of the ground cause they kind of blend in with the color of the soil. I usually kind of run my hand over the ground and if I feel something, I take a closer look. These were really hard to see, until the foliage actually opened up and I could see the green.

I got mine last fall and I don't see anything yet, either. Most everything else that dies back is up now as we have had warm weather for a while. I don't want to dig at where they are so will wait a little while longer.

Hmmmm. I planted mine fairly late in fall last year, too, but they are definitely up. I added some of our magic mix (chicken manure), and the location is under trees and other plants in my shady portion of the backyard. I've left lots of leaves on the ground over the years, and there is a bit of sand in the soil as well, so drainage is par excellence.

I know these are small plants, but don't they eventually spread by underground rhizomes?
