Glad you found the issue. This problem can be difficult to diagnose. Obviously a CBC / Chem panel to start. Some horses with ulcers exhibit this symptom, usually with some behavior change, like not wanting to eat when food is out. Endoscopy can easily diagnose this and is not prohibitively expensive (approx $250 plus sedation in our area) Some horses seem to be carriers of salmonella or clostridium. There are PCR tests for this that can be carried out quite easily. Changes in feed are an obvious red flag, as is molasses, which someone mentioned. Cushings disease is another possibility. In really old horses (I have one who is 29, has always had a tendency to have 'cow pies' if upset or has any change in her routine - and now is more prone to that) they have much the same issue that really old humans have - organ systems aren't working as efficiently. Diagnosis is key. If nothing can be found, a prebiotic can safely be added (such as Ration Plus). Simple feeding of straight grass hay and water, plus hydrated beet pulp (very easy to digest) can help. Slippery Elm powder and Marshmallow root are generally very safe and easy to purchase at the health food store. They coat the stomach and intestines. Succeed (or it's main ingredients of the amino acids L-Glutamine and L-Threonine) can be very helpful in calming digestion.

Sorry you lost her, Siamese. I'm not really knowledgeable about prolapse or egg binding, since so far my hens have never had that problem, but Stacy2564 has a similar problem with one of her hens. See post "Bleeding Chicken". If you have the stomach for it, try doing a bit of an autopsy to see if she was eggbound. It may help your other hens to have more information. Once the tissue of the vent protrudes and is visible, the other hens will often peck at it until the blood loss is significant. I have heard of people using Preparation H to shrink the tissue, but I have also heard this is not a good idea. So who knows.

Hi there, sorry, but I'm with Agnes on this one. It might be nothing, but it might be something. I just found out, after YEARS of peeing on myself on accident and seeing the doctors about it (who said what again? oh yeah. more kegals) that I have a prolapsed rectum. My intestines are sitting on my bladder and my pelvic floor can't handle all the weight. My docs (3 of them) have always said no worries, nothing wrong. It wasn't until I went to the colon/rectal specialist that I found out this was a physical problem. So, I think it's great if the Mangosteen is working, just, if it keeps up get an umpteenth opinion.

My female cat has visually noticeable "parts" there too. Good idea to ask the vet. We once had a dog that got an infection down there so it's just best to make sure she's a little different and not having some kind of issue. I hope your new kitty is turning out to be a wonderful companion.
