Looking good! It's awesome that you still have such a large variety so far into the season. What do you fertilize your toms with?

I still have tons of Chadwick Cherry tomatoes, they are so prolific. I have been drying them at low temps in the oven, after being inspired by Donn's dehydrator pictures. I think I'll keep doing this until frost. I don't how much time is left. I think the average frost for me is mid-October.

Mo girl. I put all my toms in pots that hold 1 1/4 cubic feet of soil.
I used nothing but miracle grow potting mix for soil and fertilizer and put the WS seedlings in the pots the first week in June.
I also planted a dwarf marigold in each pot to help keep the bugs away.

Afer planting the seedlings, all I did was stake and water, water, water them. we had very little rain all summer and even up to now. So it was water them at least once a day.

What size pots hold 1 1/4 cf of soil? I'd rather have mine in pots than in the ground.

Looking good, Fran! I'll have to take lessons from you next year. Thankfully, I had a couple from each variety, but my plants were nowhere near as prolific as yours. Maybe I'll figure it out next year!

I bought the pots at Walmart last year, probably in March and April. I think they measure about 17 inches across, but they had a label inside the pot that said they held 1 1/4 cubic feet of soil.
The pots were cheap too. $4.97 each and it included a saucer that I just took off and didn't use.

Drippy, all I did with the pots is this. I put several cheap coffee filters in the bottom of the pots to keep the soil from coming out. Filled it about 1/3 with fresh miracle grow potting mix, then soaked that soil. Then added another 1/3 of soil, soaked that, then filled the rest of the pot with miracle grow soil and soaked it. Planted the seedling in the center and a dwarf marigold on the edge of the pot. Left about 2 inches of the pot without soil. covered the top with a 1 inch of cheap bark mulch and soaked the pots.
The pots get full sun from about 10AM till about 4PM during the summer, but are getting less now. Put in plastic 6 foot stakes to stake the plants to when I was done. 3 in each pot.
I didn't get to prune them that well, so there where quite a few suckers when I finally got to the plants. I cut off all the suckers that had no tomatoes on them and left the ones that did.
Watered at least once a day all summer, no rain to speak of and didn't fertiize with anything other than the original soil.

It's an expensive way to grow them though. I know I've read somewhere that you shoudn't plant tomatoes in the same soil every year and need to rotate crops in the ground.
Based on that and the way these grew with fresh miracle grow potting mix, I'm going to use fresh every year. The soil seems to still be good though, so when I dumpt the tomato plants, any remaining soil is going into may new flower bed I'm working on now.

I know for sure though, never will put tomato plants in anything but pots.
Oh, these where all indeterminate tomato seedlings. I've never grown determinate in pots before and been growing tomato plants in pots for severa years; just never used pots this big before and it sure makes all the difference in the world.

Fran, those look soooo good! I grow my tomatoes in an Earthbox; used to grow in 5-gal pots/buckets, but keeping them watered was an issue for me. It's easier with the Earthbox's reservoir.

I actually cut back my tomatoes about a month ago - I was getting a bit tired of tomatoes. My one 'kosovo' plant yielded almost 4-dozen HUGE toms - I couldn't eat or give them away fast enough. And it just kept putting out new buds and fruit - the plant itself was just huge, with branches hanging over the abyss. I was afraid of tomatoes dropping onto someone's head down below. The 'patio' tomato plant was the same thing - supposed to be a determinate, but it's been acting like an indeterminate.

Yesterday, I cut the plants back again, very severely; there are about a dozen 'patio' left to ripen, and maybe 10 of the 'kosovo'. Once they ripen, those plants will be history.

Can't believe I'm killing my tomatoes, but it can't be helped.
