Maryann, I sure hope that someone can help you find what you're looking for. I typed in your username in the search box and scrolled down through the 11 pages and didn't have any luck. I'm assuming that you started the thread and so your name would show at the top, so I didn't click on every single link on those pages. Nothing jumped out at me as being what you're looking for, but maybe it is on one of those 11 pages? I don't know how posts get sorted, but I saw posts mixed up from one year to the next and didn't seem to be in order by year.

I remember when you were talking about the BC's and how you were keeping them in your unheated garage (I think that's right anyway) over the winter and were hoping that they'd be okay that way. I really enjoyed reading about them, and I do hope that you find what you're looking for. Sorry I couldn't find it for you.

Thanks for trying cathy...I did the same by searching for my user name but no luck. I should learn to keep my own records.

It's not really that critical to find the posts, but I hoped it would refresh my memory as to dates.

I'd swear that posts had a MUCH longer shelf life around here than they did when I first joined. I figured getting something from 2006 was not a problem. I now see things go back to only Sept 2007. I'm curious if there was a recent purging of messages or the longer shelf life was just my imagination.

My only thought would be to look through your old emails for responses to your thread. That would give you a date.

My personal theory is that they only keep a certain number of pages around, and that when a thread goes beyond the end of the last page, it goes poof. However, I have not really looked to see if there is always the same number of pages or not. So, that theory remains untested.

After some checking, I'd say Jmcat hit the nail on the head. We get to keep as many topics as fit on 67 pages. There is a "bananas" section and their 67 pages goes back to 2005. Other sections I checked just make it back to sometime last year.

A good reason to do a "search" and try to use an existing thread, if one fits your needs.

I THINK I may have found your old post - in kinda a backwards way. I realized a while back that our posts from here appear on Google. That worried me some cause when you post here, you kinda feel you know the people who will be reading it. Anyway, I typed in Baltimore Checkerspot and it gave me 67 pages of places to go. I went through those and found two by "berngirl" but not yours. Then I typed in Baltimore Checkerspot on Gardenweb and it gave me fewer, some of the ones I had already checked and others. I found one that was titled "Chelone Lyonni Hot Lips and Baltimore Checkerspot" posted by Zebz 7 on may 29, 07. Emmayct, you responded to that one a couple of times SO MAYBE that is what you are looking for? I didn't go any further to see if you had more but if you can't find it on here, go to Google and see what you can find. I have used this method a few times and have always found what I was looking for. Sometimes it just takes scanning pages to do so. Hope this helps others, too.

Emmay- The Wayback Machine is a cache of old pages, however, I don't know for sure if you can actually see the post, only the thread title as it existed on the day they cached the page.

Having said that, put in this forum's address (http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/butterfly) into the box (where it says "Take me Back"), and take a look at the pages from 2006 to see if your post is at least on the pages. I think the pages will work, but clicking on the threads may not.

I have all the forum threads from 2003, 2004, and 2005.
I stopped collecting them due to time constraints.
Now with new equipment and a faster connection, I should
start doing this again. Requests for very old postings are
rare but they do occur.

I see you joined in early 2005; I looked at all the thread titles with your name for that year and there was neither "baltimore" nor "checkerspot" in any of the titles.

So you are likely right that your lost posting was in 2006.

Wow, you guys are great...You've spent so much time trying to help.

I figured I could google baltimore checkerspots emmayct, and it would bring up the post. No luck.

I then used Jmcat's link and found they post titled..."Baltimore Caterpillar Update," from May 13,'07...but couldn't access the actual post.

It seems to have dropped out of cyberspace into the great unknown. Oh well, it's not essential, but it would have been nice to have.

I was doing a search and a post from November 2006 came up. This surprised me since my research for this thread showed everything older than Sept. 2007 was gone.

Two different things about the post I found:

1) The background is not white

2) The URL is different. After the last "/" current messages start with "msg" but this one starts with "gal."

What you are looking for might still be out there if we can just come up with the right search criteria.

The "gal" simply means it was a "gallery" message as opposed to the "msg" message that occurs in a regular forum "text" discussion thread.

Although this forum gallery has only 10 archived pages, the messages do go back to 20 October 2005!

The gallery is largely obsolete because broadband internet connections are common and posting pix on the text forum is not the download drag it used to be. Note the tiny "gallery" link near the top of the forum page.

I wanted to share my BC raising experience with someone and thought the old post would be a good way to do that. I think I'll just have to recreate my story from memory and pictures that I have on the computer.
